Those banned characters are a Windows limitation, not specific to 8.1

Since React is built to be similar to NT
Lukas
what about ReactOS?
React can be install with Btrfs (from 0.4.10) and i think this will suit you.
Lukas
But need to be tested.

Is React stable enough for daily yet
Lukas
On paper, there are only two "banned" characters in BRTFS - null and slash.
matt

only problem, there may be some weird windows programs out there that won't run on other partition types
matt
I ain't completelly sure about that. but still, not a big deal for me to be honest

matt
I hope this project does actually solve some limitations of the original NT kernel
Anonymous
I think this project is here to make a free and open source version of WinNT

It's decent if you customize it
Lukas
lol its a torture machine not a os
matt
there's even ValiantOS
matt
calling it windows 11 lightweight edition is not enough for microsoft
matt
it's modular and acts pretty much like a linux distribution
matt
only problem, it's not open source and doesn't seems to be actually doing the things it advertises itself to do (like running old windows programs)
matt
at least from what I've heard currently at the moment

Gimme a link, can't find anything
matt
theoretically, a ReactOS “server” edition would have been even lighter than this OS
Anonymous
What is ValiantOS
Anonymous
Can't find it online

What is ValiantOS
my bad, excuse me for misspelling this name. it is called "ValidationOS"
matt
microsoft released this particular OS in a stealthy way without much fanfare
Anonymous
Ah
Anonymous
It's not to run old Windows apps.
matt
it has the same software limitations as windows 11
Anonymous
Also it's not for consumers

matt
there are still many intel Mac software that has been written for the x86_64 architecture. yet, Apple doesn't support intel macs anymore
matt
the project is still in it's embrionic stage and cannot yet run Mac software yet

this project is truly ambitious, even apple consumers thinks that the company has made some “controversial” decisions as for latelly such as locking down the system, changing the interface too much, etc

hey, guys, have you (the ROS organisation in Germany) tried to get some grants, e.g. from European union?
Stas'M
^ @TheReimi
matt
I fear the EU would just force it's own ideology on the project if it takes too much influence from it.
Also, ReactOS is not a political tool to be used by just simply politicians
matt
yes, it needs modey to sustain itself. but also a very diverse set of investors so that no one could truly influence it
