64 bit is the limitations of 32 bit squared
Mike
64 bits is 64 bits. tbh, most 64 bits systems just use ram and cpu access, and cpu instructions 64 bit long. ram addressing is 48 bits, iirc

Mike
and btw, even with 32 bit (and even with 16 bits!): fpu was 80 bit
Mike
there's always someone with different needs and preferences who would like or need to disagree

*for now, for the common user
the official modern windows filesystem is 48 bit. although i will say were getting close to the 256TB limit.
Mike
going to bring my dog home after a few days out, see you later

RISC-V has a 128-bit ISA specced out for future proofing. Probably even practical today for certain workloads

@bpwel you verge on trolling, but it's much more likely you're a minor born into the 64-bit CPU world.
Computer technology and requirements expand all the time. What was acceptable in 1996 is no longer in 2022. It doesn't mean anything was based around "greed" (not sure what you think that word means).
In 2040 you may as well be scoffing OSes from the 2020s for "being too greedy to allow files bigger than 16EB"

Yeah that explains a lot.

and yes im a bit of a troll. i like pissing off apple haters who i think unfairly give apple hate for things companies like samsung, google, microsoft also do.

this explains everything
to be fair 64 bit windows wasnt released until 2005 and 64 bit macos wasnt released until 2009

like the fiat uno/mille
Mike
even me 262 was produced again in usa in the 2000s, but this doesn't mean i live in the me 262 service times
Mike
also, i was a kid during fiat uno and r5 (in europe) golden times. you can still find quite a few of those cars, and tbh my car is one of those, but this doesn't mean it's a recent car
Eris
i get the feeling this person tries to sound smart by using big words, yet fails to fool anyone since almost everyone in there knows a thing or two more about computers
Eris
"im smarter than microsoft"
hahahahahahahahahahhaahahah

Windows doesn't support booting from GPT on BIOS, because they never wrote boot loader support for it
Chungy
Go use Linux if you want to boot from BIOS and GPT

last time i tried i only saw legacy. even on my computers with a 64 bit efi.
Chungy
For practical purposes you might push the date to 2006 for Vista, first common release with it.

Mike
i want to be honest: you are around the age of my students. and you're making the same errors they do.
Eris
at this point this person does low effort trolling or just has a low IQ
Eris
i didnt live in the old age of computers but i dont pretend that i do and pull nonsense out of my ass, i'm willing to learn how things were and gain an understanding of it
