To fix it you have to debug reactos on your computer
Anonymous
i just downloaded the bootcd 0.4.15 4872 gcc debug edition
Julio
As is likely your macbook doesn't has serial port, you're going to use screen debugging

it has usb type a 2.0, mini dvi, ethernet, firewire 400, headphone jack, microphone jack, magsafe 1, ata optical combo drive, sata 2.5 inch hdd.
Anonymous
None of them are usable for debugging 🙃
i thought debugging was opened by pushing a button or holding down a key
Julio
When you start reactos, you will see te freeldr menu
Julio
It gives you several options for debugging
Julio
You have to select Screen
Julio
Then you will see the debug info in your monitor
Julio
The debugger's job is to tell you what's exactly happening in the depths
Julio
And maybe will tell us why your keyboard does not work
Julio
If the case, these info is gonna be the starting point for fixing your problem

its firmware is a 32 bit efi but a 64 bit cpu. it can boot 32 bit uefi and 32 and 64 bit legacy oses. when i put in a reactos dvd efi boot shows up but does nothing. i think the firmware is confused and probably outdated since the latest version is 1.1 which is from 2007 i think. legacy mode boots fine but the keyboard and trackpad wont work once i get passed the freeldr screen. not even usb keyboards and mouses work.

wait a second... i think i only see the freeldr screen when booting the live iso

maybe when i hold down the 1 key and enter key to confirm the cd-rom boot type it skips the screen. all i get is a screen telling me to press enter to boot into reactos medium and the keyboard works on that screen but once im booted into the setup for the install disc the keyboard some works a couple times when i push a button but will stop working after that.
Anonymous
Before booting to the setup (a.k.a 2nd stage) you should see the freeldr menu
i remember it showing up in the live iso but this is the install iso
Julio
Anyway, if the keyboard does not work in livecd too, you could try to debug there
Julio
Are you able to record with your cellphone the 2nd stage boot process?
Julio
Maybe a video might be more useful
Anonymous
i remember it showing up in the live iso but this is the install iso
now when i try the live iso on a dvd its not showing and just tells me to press enter to boot reactos medium
Julio
Unless... you are using a -rel build

Unless... you are using a -rel build
im using the one on the homepage of the website
Julio
Grab thid file https://iso.reactos.org/livecd/reactos-livecd-0.4.15-dev-4872-g8a3db97-x86-gcc-lin-dbg.7z
Julio
It should display the freeldr menu
Julio
Would be great also if you record with your cellphone what happens after pressing enter
Julio
I want to see the whole sequence
Julio
Because it should not skip the freeldr menu
Anonymous
with the live cd on the 2007 macbook which doesnt show the freeldr screen anymore it seems it will list a bunch of sys files and on the other computer it shows the reactos logo and a progress bar when booting in regular mode
Julio
Ajam
Julio
are you booting using liveusb?
Julio
There is a way you could try: is possible to "hack" your freeldr.ini to autoselect the screen mode debug
Anonymous
are you booting using liveusb?
im using a dvd. older intel macs will only boot operating systems in legacy mode using either the ata connector for the internal optical drive or the sata connector for the internal hard drive. only 32 bit uefi oses will boot externally.
Julio
I see... can you overwrite that dvd?
Anonymous
I see... can you overwrite that dvd?
yes. i have 15 rewritable single layer dvds with 4.7gb of storage each and 2x write speeds.
Julio
Ok ok, did you burned a dvd with the iso file I linked?
Julio
Ok, let me know when is done

that seriously raises the question of what OS is running :D
Chungy
NT 5.2's kernel with ReactOS's... everything else
Stas'M
by the picture I can judge Win32k.sys is also from Win2k3
Chungy
How do you detect that?
Stas'M

Chungy
The string doesn't come from ntoskrnl.exe?
Stas'M
no, it comes right from win32k.sys driver, aka Win32 subsystem
Esteban
I can barely believe the way ReactOS is taking shape lately. Well done, everyone.

hbelusca Z[J]=∫𝒟𝜑 exp(ⅈS[𝜑,J]/ℏ): So here in the screenshot, if that ntoskrnl being shown is the one running, then what you see is indeed windows 2003.

But what if it's XP 64 🤔
Camarada Gato
When ReactOS will report NT 6.1?
Chungy
2091
Eris
i think at that point the vulcans advice us to not continue working on reactos
Chungy
skynet takes over development

Maybe, if you consider the OS to be just the kernel, but I don't :P For Windows, at least "What is the OS?" is pretty easy, it comes on the install CD/DVD. The kernel plus the userland libraries/binaries. Most Unices are easy about it too, a kernel plus the userland libraries/binaries. It's basically only Linux that makes it complicated because there isn't any one project; kernel is developed separately from every other package and distributions are the OSes.
Chungy
All in all, "Is it Windows or ReactOS?" is answerable by "Both and neither."

I've absolutely called Android a Linux distro, and have since 2008
Camarada Gato
Android is a good distro, problem is OEMs.

Android is not a distro

What is your definition of "distro"?
𝚂𝚑𝚊𝚢𝚊𝚗
distro

distribution?
Camarada Gato
For me, if there a Linux kernel, then is distro. Then, Android is Linux distro.
Camarada Gato
𝚂𝚑𝚊𝚢𝚊𝚗
Nope. Linux is a kernel, Android is an Operating System with Linux Kernel. Android is not a Linux or GNU/Linux Distribution
Eris
congratulations, you just contradicted yourself
Chungy
indeed :P
