ReactOS does not support nvme
Then Dell laptop must not run ROS?
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
If recalled correctly, ROS is still being lacked of NVMe drivers
Victor
and you will need an internal cdrom, because I assume those laptops don't have USB2.0 ports
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
And ... SATA 2.5" vs SATA M.2 Which run ROS better?
Victor
that's irrelevant
Petrus
If recalled correctly, ROS is still being lacked of NVMe drivers
It would run better in older hardware, and you know it already
Temmie
are you sure you want to get ryzen 5700 laptop for reactos?
Temmie
almost nothing will work
Petrus
He's too stubborn
Victor
no, if it's connected via USB 3.0
Petrus
Usb 3.0 doesn't have backwards compatibility for 2.0?
Victor
not always
Petrus
Ok, I understand. Thanks, I didn't knew about such details. I got an external drive to be able to boot some tricky isos on newer hardware
Victor
btw, external cdrom will work with the same level of instability as usb flash drives
Victor
so I wouldn't bother with them)
Petrus
Well, in my previous job, I had to do very tricky OS installations on pristine new laptops. Depending on the model, I had to use the external cdrom drive because thumbdrive didn't boot
Petrus
So I never discard alternative boot methods
Joakim
So like os/2 warp on macbooks or what?
Anas
I'll probably be dead until ReactOS officially releases.
Bruh, if you didn't know, ReactOS is actually developing faster now than it was when I first started following it, which was in 2016 or something after I got tired of Win10
Petrus
So like os/2 warp on macbooks or what?
Hhaha no, but I couldn't install Ubuntu desktop in one of those gaming laptops, and I finally managed to run Devuan on it. You know, IT managers choosing hardware as if it were potatoes
Petrus
Sorry, the gaming one was another techical case. I got problems with a Dell laptop. Supposedly to be a professional model, it didn't allow me to install any Ubuntu version. But it worked when I tried a non-systemd distro like Devuan 🤣
Petrus
And I needed the usb cdrom to install windows 10 in an old Vaio desktop they wanted to re-use. Not to mention playing with bios settings and such
Petrus
Desktop manufacturers are usually bad bitches
Petrus
They submit with m$oft draconian requirements
Petrus
So I expect to need some hardware hacking on any computer and I prefer to have my tools at hand
Petrus
If the IT manager says to you "hey, I got a pc as you requested, anyone will fit, what's wrong?" You can reply: "Sure boss, exchange your car with mine"
Petrus
Vaio is a nightmare
I can't tell, I've used very few models of that brand. Keyboard was comfortable in one of those, I kept using that core2duo until I got a Thinkpad
Petrus
I couldn't set hibernation on that model (on Linux)
Anas
I mean in Vaio, you have to pay to get into the bios, and I'm not kidding
Anas
Every single Vaio that I had to do a fresh install of Windows on, was a nightmare
Anas
So every time I figure what the boot menu key is and got each model, it is different
Anas
Some had a dedicated assist key, in others I had to press F12 or something
Harrison
I mean in Vaio, you have to pay to get into the bios, and I'm not kidding
I have a vintage VAIO with a single core Celeron and I can prove it is not entirely true
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
almost nothing will work
You mean ... Ryzen 5700 is too new to work on ROS? But the ROS manual says, Ryzens should just work
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
Vaio is a nightmare
At their Sony arcs (≤2013), yes But for the first sales of independent VAIO's, this comes at all uncertain
Anas
I have a vintage VAIO with a single core Celeron and I can prove it is not entirely true
Well, I'm talking from personal experience here, I've had to do fresh install of OS on 3 different models of VAIO and every single one of them asked me for a password when I tried to enter the bios, when I investigated about it, it turned out that Sony would give you this password if you go to their website and then enter a serial number or something which is specific to each device they sold, and then they'll all you for 30USDs, after paying which, you get the password for your bios
Anas
Sony later sold this entire website to a third party, and there are people upto this day going there, paying 30USDs and getting the password for the bios of their VAIOs
Anas
You can go search for it, and Sony even said that they did this so that they can reduce 30USDs from the actual cost of the laptop, because accessing the bios is luxury or something, I don't remember their exact words
Petrus
I take note about this heresy
Victor
They problem is not with the CPU itself, its with the peripherals
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
NVMe not yet working USB 3.2C/3.1C not yet working But does USB 3.2A works?
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
Other peripherals also reported not yet working on ROS?
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
Victor
if your controller doesn't emulate that, it won't work
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
USB PCI?
Victor
USB PCI?
what do you mean?
Petrus
North and south bridges are mostly supported?
Victor
they are not exposed to the system "as-is"
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
what do you mean?
USB controllers on the mainboard?
Victor
doesn't matter how it is connected
Victor
I think there are not that many ways to connect a USB controller to a PC)
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
Only USB 1.0-2.0 work
Asus M515 fortunately still has 2 × USB 2.0 The rest 2 are USB 3.2C and 3.2A
Victor
cool, than it will probably work
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
👍🏻☺️
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
I also opt in Asus M515 (instead of Dell 5515 Vostro) due to NVMe + SATA SSD's (Dell one is 2 × NVMe SSD's) So ... ROS is going to be installed on the SATA SSD of M515
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
There are five major jobs which must be done for ROS, in order to be a full open source wn$ replacement UEFI Class III drivers USB 3.2C drivers Internal and USB exFAT drivers (Real wn$ is lacked of internal exFAT functionality, if we have first every people from wn$ are going to us) NVMe drivers 1.82+ TiB SATA SSD drivers
Chungy
Windows can use exFAT on SATA/NVMe just fine.
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
Windows can use exFAT on SATA/NVMe just fine.
But, how to unhide for wn$ 11? Sign letter by MiniTool partitioner?
Chungy
I don't even know what you're trying to ask there.
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
Unhiding internal exFAT partitions on Windows 11
Chungy
...okay
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
And how to assign them by letters A and B? C is the base system partition But why A and B were dropt for now entirely obsolete protocols like floppies?
Chungy
meanwhile, in reality land
Chungy
Chungy
that system doesn't have a floppy drive attached. You can assign a drive letter A or B freely as you wish, there's no restrictions on it.
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
I need my internal exFAT partitions to be mounted on A and B
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
Still unrestricted?
Chungy
then do so
✝️ ☺️🌞 HD Scania
👍🏻👍🏻
