what you're expecting out of reactos is a lot
Julen
Any workaround?
Yes, a build with the Pierre's patch

I need to connect to the internet via usb tethering from an android phone
You have to try to install the wifi drivers manually, it's hard to make it work and only admits wep or no pass.

I have downloaded the wifi driver, I'm finding a way how to copy it on reactOS without usb storage

reactos contributors aren't allowed to look at windows source code iirc

This is bad, maybe unofficially can develop our own version without putting it on the site
Julen

This is illegal too. If you don't have the microsoft expressed permission, you are not allowed to use their code.

Remember the petition to have the Windows 7 code, Microsoft didn't respond
JeisonWi
I know but what choice we have
The choice is easy - don't use their code.
Anonymous
It's ridiculous, they don't have anymore profits from that systems, only thing is security, and the xp code is online
Julen
Remember the petition to have the Windows 7 code, Microsoft didn't respond
Oh, WV doesn't send me the answer of how they build their cars and the source code. Maybe is better to stole them.
Anonymous
Only youtubers do it
Julen

Other opinion. Spanish government still uses XP for some things. Also, the us pentagon.
Julen
It's ridiculous, they don't have anymore profits from that systems, only thing is security, and the xp code is online
Oh, that something is deprecated or abandoned doesn't allow you to steal the code
Mike
Have a look is not steal
If you are a coder, it is
Mike
It's plagiarism at least, patent violation at last
Julen
Have a look is not steal
Oh, let's give a look to the Coca-Cola's formula... I will never remember anything like... OMG it contains this!

So no-one can do nothing, it's sad
Julen
We had this discussion on the Mattermost, here in Telegram, and I suppose that in Discord too.
Mike
And in the forum, ofc.
Julen
Oh, forum
Julen
Too.

Unless Microsoft decides to release xp/2003 sources under a GPL license, forget about it
Mike
I don't think they will do
So, let's please avoid legal problems to this project 😊
deivid
It seems the source code of windows xp has been released

deivid
I can paste an external link?
deivid
no no, user twitter
deivid
Leaked Is not released
I understand the difference ok
Mike
Unless I see an official statement and code release by Microsoft from their very own site, I wouldn't trust it at all
Anonymous
Maybe a petition can work now that the code is online we can ask to set under gpl license
deivid
I have read now that it is a leak, the emotion has played a trick on me
Mike

You kidding? Windows internals are the same since windows 3 and nt 3.51, just expanded and renewed a lot. Would you give away your biggest asset?
Julen
I have a doubt, can I (as tester) try to boot openNT (compiled version of the leaked NT4) but never look at the code? Is this illegal as a tester?
Mike
Also, backdoors included?
Tobiyo
Tempting? xD https://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-xp-source-code-leaked-online-on-4chan-out-of-all-places/
This is not for copying, but for studying and understanding the device, in order to make it better.
Sayanth
At least use xp's features
That would be great. I really hope so. )

Did you ever read the chat?
Dee
The ReactOS project had to stop development & do an entire code audit to ensure that they hadn’t inadvertently received any actual Microsoft code, years ago. No one wants to have to go through that again. The project isn’t even remotely interesting in this.
Did you ever read the chat?
No, I haven't read much of the forum, and today I found this chat to share information with the project developers. I've been following the project for a long time. I like the policy of open, lightweight software.

I think it's better to look at an example of what has already been done and think about how to improve it, rather than invent something from scratch, with the possibility of inheriting errors.

ReactOS contributors are not allowed to look at leaked sources

If you are not going to contribute to ReactOS directly, feel free to study them though

The auditory idea is... Something that should be take in account. Parsing the files and looking into every single functions. Obviously, without the DDK because it should be the same that microsoft liberates.
ReactOS contributors are not allowed to look at leaked sources
Your business, I just expressed my opinion
Julen
I feel this like a sad moment, because always in this case, the injured are ReactOS and Wine.
Daniel "TheReimi"
I removed the links to the leaked code. Just FYI

Microsoft even sued a guy named Mike Rowe who made small programs and joked on his name, opening a site called "mikerowesoft". Microsoft has an army of lawyers and infinite funds. Do you think what will happen if a Ros developer decided to copy that? They're just waiting for it to axe down all of the project, and maybe wine too!!!
Stas'M
Linux fanboys are now trying hard to take down ReactOS
Stas'M
because we are potential competitors
Jose
Not all!!!!!, please 😎
Stas'M
that's a good part of news
