Yes, this is a good point. Btw, i rarely use vlc, mostly as a stand-alone player. I just prefer mpc-hc or mpc-be.

(Or the old winamp 2.95 for music, i think it sounds really better than other programs... Sorry, i'm old!)
Petrus
How's the smplayer performance on Windows platforms?

programs dont change anything when outputting sound, unless there's a EQ or DSP effect also update, 2.95 is old as hell

It changes between directsound, waveout or other plugins. With my old PC (SB audigy 2 zs soundcard + 2.1 creative speakers), waveout was simply perfect. Directsound was still good, yet not the same
Mike
Of course, depending on the configurations, YMMG

(this is a mere theory) might be because vlc is more optimized for *nix stuff, and less so for windows
Mike
 i'd suggest to try 5.666 and see what happens
I tried when the new versions got out: winamp 3 just sucked (like carmageddon 2000, why did they do it???). Winamp 5 was quite good, but too heavy and with much useless things. So, I reverted to 2.95. This was a few years ago. Since then, I started using mpc and its spinoffs, and retained that old winamp for playlists. Just my opinion.
Mike
BTW, I loved nullsoft disk writer output plugin. If you installed the right codecs on your system, you could transcode audio from mp3 to other formats

winamp3 was a spin on trying new things, too bad it was a few years ahead in time winamp 5 kept the freeform engine alongside the classic skins, because people love their classic skins also, dont take this the wrong way but comments like "but too heavy and with much useless things" annoy me to no end as it just shows that users will mindlessly click next without really checking what the installer will install

Mike
On winamp, I always took out winamp agent and other things
Eris
well yeah, it kinda sucks that you'd have to remove a few things, but the installer provided you with basic templates to work with, so that also doesnt entirely justify the claim of winamp being bloated
Alessandro
Well good to know I'm not the only one still using Winamp
Esteban
Why no one likes Foobar?
Eris
Why no one likes Foobar?
it's alright, it just doesnt come close to what makes winamp still so great
Mark
I used foobar before spotify
Mark
Even wrote some plugin for it

Changing the media topic... To de Security topic. Have you tried to install an antivirus in ReactOS? Does it worth it?
Eris
good question, would be interesting to find out if it works and if it'll find false positives in the system files or not

I have an debug break that shouldn't happen since the system boots fine, but it doesn't boot when I try to boot it without screen debug options
Anonymous
Does cont make it work?
Yes it does, but it shouldn't even be doing this as illen from discord told me
Stas'M

It shouldn't in a perfect world... you need to translate backtrace to find out which exact debug breakpoint was hit, and report it to JIRA
Stas'M
(but check out for existing tickets in JIRA once you found where it breaks)
Chungy
Is that a computer for kids or something?

Yeah the goofy case made me think that

Hi
Julen
I have a doubt about .NET integration in ReactOS. There's a guy in the Spanish chat that wanted to create from scratch an antivirus for ReactOS in .NET 2.0... He developed something, but it doesn't work. I don't know if the support of .NET is ok for developing anything or whatever. Maybe, should he install a module or something?
Mark
Installing .net would probably help
Julen
He aborted the mission. XDD

<hbelusca> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'd bet that either this .net thing is a virus itself or it is some example code that 'detects' processes on process name

that looks 100x better than before

Question: why don't you help with clamwin or something like that?

Ou yeah, that's beautiful

<hbelusca> writing an AV using .net or electron is like me wanting to write native windows applications using VBA when I was 11 .

In fact could even have replaced Windows if the Win8 strategy didn't win out

Wow, a new washed web. That means additional funding 😜
