Well hello there everyone !

That's straight up dreaming

It'll never happen as Win7 is still too widely used and that they haven't done it for any Windows OS ever...
MS DOS isn't FOSS, right ?
If so, FreeDOS wouldn't be this buggy, right ?
Petrus
Windows 7 is still too much compatible to Windows 10 in binary execution. M$oft won't do that. Neither release XP sourcecode.
ReactOS would gain too much advantage if they did.
I only see this movement as trolling to a company which only is opensource with small things. Let's see what they'd answer about.

There has been a lot of deprecated ROS forks back in the say, and that was already a big ass waste of time

FreeDOS is way more feature-rich for sure...
You do not have to do all the hacks you did in the MS-DOS days...
However in regards to stability, there's still some work needed to be done, otherwise, yeah, it's pretty good...
And I don't think that even if FreeDOS had all the MS-DOS source code, that it'll help in any way...
Chungy
are you high? FreeDOS is perfectly stable.

I mean, they managed to reverse engineer pretty much everything.
Also Microsoft isn't the only one that has made a DOS Shell, if I remember correctly IBM were the first to release one with PC DOS, and there was also a myriad of other manufacturers implementation

Tony
Could not agree more with you 👍
Mark
They are in dire need of some attention
Tobiyo
Hahaha yeah i'm really curious if ms will respond to this
Chungy
get them to release Windows 3 first
Tobiyo
There already was some rumors about open source windows a few years ago :p
Chungy
well the beginning would be 1.0, but that's practically useless
Chungy
3.x still has some value I'd say.
Tobiyo
Hmmm, i suppose

I know that is windows but I don't want to waste the opportunity to have it opensource (for less possible is)

Please, check links before posting...
In the first sentence I see an error.
No, Windows 7 isn't reaching it's end of life...
The FSF is doing that in desperate need of awareness that they exist...
Very sad

Petrus
That's why I'm migrating desktops to win10
Anonymous
Two completely different things
Petrus
Well, no updates mean death
Stas'M
Petrus
Ubuntu 14.04 has ended, too. You'll get updates only if you pay, if I remember.
Anonymous
You can still get updates for desktops that do not want to migrate...
If you apply a simple patch that's called BypassESU

Petrus
If there is no update to fix vulnerabilities, software will be exploited. So restoring will be useless
Stas'M
There are no vulnerabilities that cannot be patched or worked around
Petrus
Stas'M
Closed source code is not that big obstacle, you still can modify the code
Mark
Yup

that's not even true as updates are sent through MS update
