My third ReactOS installation is going to be in an ASUS eee x101, with Intel Atom. Recycling old computers.

I see react os can run windows programs too
It's the main purpose of ReactOS : an opensource Windows Clone

Animated sticker.
Yup, I can't send stickers either

Windows clone 😲

Not windows will be mad to see this?
Anonymous
Its based on linux kernel right?
Anonymous
Windows clone 😲
Yeah, it aims to reimplement every single function of Windows, right now the main focus is getting proper NT 5.2 support
Anonymous
Its based on linux kernel right?
ReactOS isn't a Linux distro, it doesn't have the Linux kernel, although it uses some components you may find in Wine, the Windows compatibility layer for Linux

ReactOS is less than 25 years old, I don't know the exact date, and no one knows as it isn't clear It started as an early private project way earlier

I see react os can run windows programs too
that's kind of the point of reactos, being (and i quote) "binary-compatible with computer programs and device drivers made for Windows Server 2003 and later versions"
Anonymous
there's a reason.
There aren't any reasons anymore
Anonymous
Born in 1998, slightly newer than Linux (Wikipedia)
Well, ReactOS started on an unknown 1998 day However there was an earlier project that targeted Win9x clone

Nothing from linux/unix
Only from wine but that is not linux/unix itself

This is flex.

Atom cores, then must not be amd64 at all
My Intel Atom N550 supports amd64 instruction set

My Intel Atom N550 supports amd64 instruction set
It's a way newer SKU than the N2xx series

Also they do support DDR3 low speed single channel and has the GMA 3150 if I remember correctly

Because you are Lothaire, the only one Lothaire.
My name is pretty rare tbh I only know 3 people called Lothaire One that happen to live tens of kilometers away One that I don't even remember who he was,but that was at the time when I played Clash Of Clans And there's one dude called Lothaire in TES V at Windhelm iirc

Where you from?

Where you from?
I'm from South West France
Jose
ok, im from Spain, Madrid. Thereis a lot of developers in France participating in this and other Free OS. How much ReactOS develpers are for France?

Then what kernel it made of.
Anonymous
Then what kernel it made of.
Built from the ground up Windows NT kernel
Stas'M
Then what kernel it made of.
It's made of C code 🤣
Alexander
Then what kernel it made of.
Its made like Windows was once made
Alexander
ReactOS is the reason why I bought Server 2003 of ebay for 5€ 😅

Nice ! However I wish that ROS will never create NTFS partitions for an obvious reason

Nice ! However I wish that ROS will never create NTFS partitions for an obvious reason
One day it would be able to create them for another one obvious reason 😏

Well, installing ReactOS on an NTFS partition has no real advantage as we discussed earlier
Chungy
sure it does. What do you have against NTFS?
Anonymous
sure it does. What do you have against NTFS?
Because it's basically what MS does, and NTFS isn't FULLY open source
Anonymous
And doing what MS does it the goal of ReactOS, but copying the bad stuff feels weird to me
Chungy
NTFS is a file system, not a software project. and again: what do you have against NTFS?
Anonymous
NT 5.2 works without having an NTFS partition
Anonymous
NTFS is a file system, not a software project. and again: what do you have against NTFS?
It has been a project licensed by Microsoftn then there has been an open source implementation
Chungy
You still aren't answering the question. Why do you think it's "bad stuff"?
Anonymous
Because it's far from the fastest file system lmao
Anonymous
The two best file systems right now are XFS and ZFS
Chungy
"fastest" is mainly a matter of implementation, and if that's your standard, ZFS loses on speed.
Chungy
ZFS actually has a shot at providing all the capabilities NTFS has, XFS does not.
Anonymous
"fastest" is mainly a matter of implementation, and if that's your standard, ZFS loses on speed.
Well, it really depends on the workflow, phoronix made a showdown, let me find it
Chungy
Phoronix doesn't do good benchmarks, and it really doesn't matter if there's no ReactOS ntfs.drv to compare yet.
Chungy
So, just to be clear, NTFS is "bad stuff" because it's not "the fastest." OK then. Totally insufficient reasoning to avoid it.

Well, I mean, they aren't the best benchmarkers, as they do Ubuntu stuff Feels really weird as they do pro speech
