ACLs could be implemented via xattrs, if they want to keep a compatible format with Linux
rosbridge
<BieHDC> or even store the acl db in an external db (which would be awful but would work)

jamie@
is there a valid reason?
rosbridge
<BieHDC> because the windows source code is over 270gb, there is no way they can fix this (edited)
jamie@
Chungy
There have been patches for native NFSv4 ACLs but they're incompatible with the standard kernels and tools
jamie@
the whole repo with every resource including vids is around 300

rosbridge
<BieHDC> because ext4 is better
jamie@
(and tons of prebuilts)

NTFS is the worst filesystem for SSDs
rosbridge
<BieHDC> the 270gb comes from a talk where they made a github implementation to deal with such a large codebase btw
Anonymous
ext4 applies much less wear on the cells
rosbridge
<BieHDC> pls, dont treat your disks like you are killing it with every write
Chungy
anyway, I get that you want to be edgy and be all anti-M$, but seriously chill. NTFS isn't that bad, and there's no reason at all ReactOS wouldn't want it; even if for nothing else, reading/writing existing Windows disks.
Anonymous
I'm not anti MS, I'm realist
Chungy
also no, ext4 by default causes more writes due to its journal.
Anonymous
I do not would like to see NTFS for booting, for reading/writing maybe
Eris
Eris
doubt
Chungy
good news for the ReactOS project is that you don't get to make that decision
Chungy
you could even boot Linux off of NTFS, today, if you wanted to. :P

oo
Chungy
just make sure to have ntfs-3g in the initramfs and you're good to go. Also mount it with -o permissions so it behaves fully like a POSIX file system
rosbridge
<BieHDC> but the performance is bad if you use ntfs as rootfs for linux (or generally if you put load on it)
Chungy
I didn't say it's a great idea, just that it's possible.
jamie@
Yes, easily.
there was an Ubuntu version that used a loop mount of an ext4 file on the existing NTFS volume
jamie@
Wubi
rosbridge
<BieHDC> i am just pointing it out before anyone considers actually installing their linux on ntfs
Chungy
jamie@
but have fun with an initramfs if you really want to do so
Chungy
it was once possible to run Linux off of FAT too, with UMSDOS.
Chungy
those were fun days :P
Chungy
i actually did dual-boot slackware and Windows 95 sharing the same partition
rosbridge
<BieHDC> Slackdows 95
sounds like a generic electron based framework nowadays
Eris
reminds me of the one time someone made a electron app off of a win95 VM and everyone shat themselves about it
Joakim
https://github.com/felixrieseberg/windows95
rosbridge
<BieHDC> remember when windows 95 couldnt boot on a 2ghz cpu because it was too fast? now you need a 2ghz cpu to make it run smooth 🐸
Joakim
It did boot, you just had to luck out on the race condition
Chungy
or get a patched driver

Debug log?
Debug logs are nowhere to be available

<Cernodile> "Logs or GTFO" image nowhere to be seen

Then no way to say what's wrong
ReactOS is not BSD or Linux, not that simple to check for logs🤔
Perhaps i’m very fresh to ROS, and my BSD and Linux exp aren’t working here
