Paint x64 on ReactOS x64 confirmed! 😎

I wonder if Vista Paint works fine on ROS
Chungy
I should probably try some day xD

Does ReactOS x64 support launching x86 applications like Windows?
Stas'M
Stas'M
So only native x64 apps

<Cernodile> x64 exes yes, but unable to start x86 exes.
rosbridge
<Cernodile> For it to start x86 stuff, it needs another huge undertaking as big as it was to get x64 to work.

And i hope. It is a pity that support for NT 6.0+ is nothing more than an experiment
Anonymous
In 6.0+ i mean 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 and 10.0
Anonymous
It is not hidden, if it was hidden, theres wont be linux in ms. store
Chungy
the kernel probably would benefit from NT 6.1 compatibility since it's pretty rare for hardware drivers to exist for 5.1/5.2 anymore
Anonymous
What about backwards compatibility?
Chungy
even the real NT 6.1 still has XDDM, though it's the last version to have such xD
Chungy
and also it makes it hard to install XDDM drivers because the support is there only for upgrades from XP or Vista
Chungy
Windows 8 decided that everyone should have Aero enabled all the time and it can't be turned off, so XDDM was removed :v
Anonymous
Chungy
Chungy
Windows 8 and 10 don't normally let you turn off Aero, even though there's hacks to do that
Chungy
XDDM was removed in Windows 8 (NT 6.2)
Chungy
XDDM isn't compatible with Aero. They removed it
Chungy
If you have XDDM on Vista or W7, you can't use Aero on them, only Windows classic or uxtheme styles, and you can full-screen the command prompt with it (into the real text modes; Windows 8.1 added a pseudo-fullscreen that really just makes it bigger and remains in bitmap mode) :P

Is it legal to edit windows system files in my personal conpter
Chungy
According to the EULA, no, but nobody is going to care anyway :)
Chungy
also what's sad is that I feel like Windows Vista was the last really usable version out-of-the-box for me. Without external hacks, you had the classic start menu, could turn off ClearType, full classic theme support, no ribbons in MS Paint... nothing stopped you from turning off the shinies and making it feel like the good old "get shit done" releases.
Windows 7 at least lets you use the classic theme, though without customization. Doesn't let you turn off ClearType either, and removed the classic start menu... it's still an alright one to look at, but a little bit sad. Windows 8+ are fully sad to me.
Chungy
There's a lot of really good OS stuff introduced in all the 8.x and 10 versions, but I miss the UI customization

ReactOS could come with Cgwin + Xming by default, to implement compatibility with Posix environment applications.
Cgwin provides a WSL-like Linux environment, and Xming provides an X11 server for Windows. If implemented well, it would be even better than the WSL.
Chungy
Xming is discontinued. Use Cygwin/X
Camarada Gato
Chungy
Cygwin requires Windows Vista and NTFS to run. Probably can't work in present ReactOS
Chungy
Probably would work on btrfs, dunno if anyone has tested that. I think WinBtrfs does expose everything for full NTFS compatibility.
Camarada Gato
Cgwin is open source, maybe they can modify ReactOS or Cgwin to work.
