LXDE is the lightest graphical environment I can recommend for a new user on Linux. It consumes around 100 MB of RAM, maybe even less.

For a PC with 256 MB of RAM, LXqt is the heaviest option I would recommend.
Anything heavier than that will slow down.

No modern browser runs on 256 MB of RAM, although you might try doing this if you put at least 512 MB of swap partition.
(Obviously, it will be slow)

But right now I plunged a flash drive and my reactOS froze 10 minutes ago ... Last time I pressed the power-button it broke my installation

also do mind that Pentium 3 is 20 years old now. It's going to be difficult to run some current software on it. I suspect Firefox can be built to work with it, but not surprised that it defaults to requiring newer CPU features.

I found that Firefox_se and one more bworser are working fine
