Alessandro
Anyone on?
hi Sergio, the best thing in this case, if you find a situation where ReactOS behaves differently than Windows, is to open an issue on Jira
Alessandro
here in Telegram it would be lost in the hundreds of messages, the issue stays tracked
Alessandro
https://jira.reactos.org/projects/CORE/issues/CORE-14955?filter=allopenissues
Alessandro
just include all the details you reported here, it will be fine

Does the Reactos devs use HT editor https://sourceforge.net/projects/hte/files/ht-bin-win32/
Mattia
Hello guys!
Mattia
I’m using the latest stable version of reactos(live) and I got this error. What can I do?
Mike
Did you try to run chkdsk /f ? (BTW, we have an Italian chat too)
Mike
(But not too active, sorry)
Mattia
Did you try to run chkdsk /f ? (BTW, we have an Italian chat too)
Ehm, i flashed the image to the pendrive with rufus and nothing else
Mike
@reactos_it
Mike
Which image? For live usb usually it is better to use vgal's builds
Mattia
Chungy
the standard builds don't have USB booting support.
Chungy
You have to boot them from CD or DVD
Mike
(Italian) passa nella nostra chat, che se hai difficoltà con l'inglese o ti va di fare due chiacchiere ci siamo 😊 (/italian)

No habla terrorist
Mike
It's stylish, not terrorist 😅 (btw, I just told him to get into Italian chat in order to continue our discussion easily 😊 )
Mike
(I know I'm lucky, i just live 30 minutes by train far from the most beautiful town in the world. And I've seen and enjoyed many places around the world, but Venice is simply magic. Sorry for the ot)
Mike
Any news from the RC?
Soeng-Gam
what is new in 4.11?
Soeng-Gam
The thread about 4.11 release can't be found in the react os forum
Victor
Stability fixes mostly
Alejandro Jeditobe
what is new in 4.11?
Now you can run vc++ 2008 apps and .NET 2.0&4.0 apps
Soeng-Gam
Eris
still a 50/50 chance of getting a bsod
Tobiyo
They will not do this
the open source part i say, i can see them dropping support for win32 sometime
Mike
IMHO, they won't. The huge sw park and retrocompatibility is ms's greatest asset.
Mike
They'll move on with metro and universal apps, of course, and therefore win32 will be just maintained as is, but it'll take long
Mike
(Is there something like "reactos offtopic chat" somewhere here on telegram?)
Tobiyo
an offtopic chat would be great (its a double edged sword imho while win32 support enables an genormous sw park it also holds it back from making significant improvements in its core)
Mike
Yes, but even if win32 is an old format, it still works good for most necessities (on 32 bit environment, of course). Metro apps may be newer and with better specs and features, but most users don't need these changes.
Eris
32 bit environment only?
Tobiyo
true but most users don't need cortana pr live tiles either, yet it on every single win 10 pc in addition to the win32 apps they do need
Tobiyo
i'm also pretty sure it works on 64 bit aswell
Tobiyo
speaking of which 32 bit will be facing the 2k38 problem 'soon'..........
Kirn
speaking of which 32 bit will be facing the 2k38 problem 'soon'..........
Why can't the OS just use a 64-bit time_t regardless?
Tobiyo
because of hardware, i believe its 32 hardware that will face the problem not software perse
Stas'M
speaking of which 32 bit will be facing the 2k38 problem 'soon'..........
Win32 x86 software designed for Windows NT is not affected by that anyway
Stas'M
(but only in case it uses the Time API properly)

Is decompiling and decompiling software forbidden for use as a Reactos developer?

Is decompiling and decompiling software forbidden for use as a Reactos developer?
"Students are required to affirm that the following is true. I hereby swear that I have not used nor seen the source code to any version of the Windows operating system nor any Microsoft product that may be related to the proposed project that is under a license incompatible with contribution to ReactOS, including but not limited to the leaked Windows 2000 source code and the Windows Research Kernel." extracted from GSOC 2019 page
Anonymous
Yes, it is forbidden, because decompiling is practically seeing the source code
Eris
i mean
Eris
if both teams (wine and reactos) just decompiled windows code, then programs + drivers would run with 100% efficiency (more or less)
Eris
it'd be cheating
Anonymous
I hadn't thought of that
Mike
MS lawyers would destroy us in that case, and this is the last thing we want
Anonymous
Can you guys delete that message with that link?
Chungy
you can't really "decompile" C or C++ programs.
Chungy
There isn't enough of the source's structure left in the binaries. especially not with optimization passes.

When will ReactOS be based on Windows NT 6.x design?
Lutrulo
2050
Anonymous
I know ReactOS is now based on Windows Server 2003 architecture design.
Yeonung
Anyone tried virtio network, storage drivers?
Anonymous
I mean when does ReactOS implement the Windows NT 6.x/10 operating system architecture design?
Chungy
Maybe never. There is significant drive by developers to keep the kernel ABI fixed at NT 5.2, application support for 6.x/10.x can be provided via DLL improvements.
Chungy
but that'd also mean no 6.x/10.x driver support.
Eris

it'd make sense to stay fixed at 5.2, but shouldnt they somewhat slowly start to target at least vista+ compatibility?
Chungy
There is such compatibility being developed and already included, all user-land. It doesn't really depend on kernel features nor drivers :P

Can you use the shared registers to get reactos to work on risc based processors like arm?
Anonymous
See the video at 31 minutes to see shared registers
rosbridge
<BieHDC> >risc based processors like arm anyway, this god mode is not really a "lets run a whole os on a 2nd cpu" kind of thing (look for linux on ps4 hack for that). however a program compiled like this for windows should also be able to trigger the hidden cpu inside

Now to my other question.

Does Reactos support protections against meltdown and Spectre?

doubt it, we have more pressing things to focus on
