smplayer works too. It's just that the default ui is very unappealing. Very 2000-ish with that glossy icon

Well it's nice to to have additional config file plugged in to smplayer. The smplayer settings is not very verbose. So, if I can plug mpv conf, that would be awesome.

One feature that stands out in smplayer as I recall is automatic files adding to the playlist. Can we do this in mpv?

ogg and opus should both be supported. ogg for closer representation, opus for smaller filesize because you do not need 320 kbit to sound as good as flac. XD

psychoacoustics is the concept that humans cant hear certain things which you can simply leave out of the file, thus saving tons of data. It was a lot of work to get to mp3 which could produce quite nice results by mostly the assumption that we cant hear what comes after deeper our louder parts and thus would leave out less hearable noises on those parts. It was still quite hearable for poeple without "normal" ears tough, making mp3 distinguishable for them. With OPUS most of these problems are now fixed too and a 96 kbit/s piano peice can sound as good as a full quality flac to most, the others might need up to 320 kbit opus but that is assuming a stupidly high-cost studio monitor setup and ears that are so weird that they could determine a difference in a doubleblind test.
