nah, I think default gnome is a nice smallest common denominator, it's not beautiful, but it's not tiring and can be used for longer IMHO + it's suprisingly comfortable, at least for me

I think that elementary os is no longer make sense since Canonical desided to throw Unity. It would be supercool, if they could cooperate altogether and merge into great 18th Ubuntu with some stuff from both of elementary's soft and from Unity.

Thing is I don't using flash drive often and my laptops DVD drive still usable. So perhaps everything will run smoothly for tomorrow.

If you have a DVD drive, use it. I use it. There's no reason for it not to work.

KDE and Cinnamon have their own Spins. I personally rather install KDE on top something else (Workstation or another Spin) rather than installing the Spin, but that's a very personal preference.
