Has you checked permissions? Maybe it has different permissions that the other icons and only certain programs can read it

I have Sublime.desktop in Cinnamon and it works fine

you can also compare sublime.desktop with another .desktop file that is shown in menu in order to find something wrong

did you do any projects on your university, maybe participated in any? Listing those could be beneficial, also programming languages you worked with, if you're in Computer Engineering I am pretty sure you have at least basic knowledge of one of them ;)
