Well, both consume more or less the same. Maybe the right question is what kind of workflow or what kind of style you like? Also, do you fancy to configure everything? KDE is for you. If not, maybe you're better trying Gnome 3.

We all know. But it happens sometimes that a particular icons themes for whatever reasons looks odd or too big. Happened multiple times to me.

Anyway happy to see a programmer chooses fedora, I'm programmer too, gnome has not customization but still simple, default and easy

because fedora allways holds 2 previous versions of the kernel. in case something goes wrong, so you can fallback to an older version.

Fedora keeps the last 3 (current + 2 Arcived) Versions of a kernel + a rescue system

when I started with Linux I liked gnome. but after some time it changed, it's not as stable as I need. it's huge and has many features I don't need, which are draining resources of my machine. then I had a really bad old laptop, for example the torrent software were causing my whole system to get load level to 20+ and to respond to anything in like, 10 minutes. after some time gnome itself became too heavy for it. and xfce was a rescue. now I have a nice new machine running gentoo with openrc and xfce. I get to the graphical login in 6 seconds after grub starts the boot sequence. that's how I like it.

this were not the apps. this was all the graphical fancy things and the addons. when I turned it all off and removed all the plugins it was quite the same as xfce, but unstable and huge, huge comparing to xfce.

For old machine, jeah, u could find even much lighter KD than XFCE itself, but that doesn't mean XFCE sucks, and gnome being heavier than xfce doesn't mean it sucks, but there is one thing I like it about XFCE, although it's light, it has some decent feature.

it is not what I mean. gnome sucks not. gnome was just inappropriate for me it that time of life. and xfce was a lot like gnome, but lighter. this was what I have needed.
