Well, there are many examples of that. Someone mentioned support for GDrive in Nautilus. That's also free software bundling non free service.

Many music players have support for last.fm, and the features is not always a plugin you can uninstall.

Libre.fm is really awesome. The developers are very responsive. I also found a great tool for moving from Last.fm to Libre.fm too. I've been backing up my Scrobbles ever since some of the weird development trends started happening with Last.fm… I'm nervous all of my listening data might disappear someday. https://github.com/kabniel/last2libre

Hi all! I posted this about the upcoming version, hope you like it... https://crossingtheair.wordpress.com/2016/05/26/looking-forward-to-fedora-24/

It depends on the use case and we cannot be generic about it

it haves Google Drive!
What they called "Google Drive support" in 3.18 was something crappy, which breaks files if you dare to open them in some program.

Overall GNOME is more complete DE than Xfce
Next version of XFCE has stated to be fully ported to GTK3. But without visual changes. I like that.

Smooth, simple. Lacks of simplicity when you want to customize things
But if you do not need to configure anything, then it just works. Do you really need to configure anything? Even the position of the panel in programs?

No, that's a bad idea. People who prefer any of the other desktops will look up somewhere else for a distribution. And if they come from a different OS and dislike Gnome won't even consider it as option.
If they dislike GNOME, they can pick other distribution, which has focus on the other DE. And this distribution has many chances to have this DE in perfect state, like GNOME in Fedora Workstation. Integrated and seamless.

I suppose, you will not understand that, but that is my point of view.

Damian
31.05.2016
23:21:48
I think what you're describing is the job of "spins"

Let the distro handle all DEs, but in different "sub-distros", spins in Fedora

What's that yellow thing on your touchpad? Is it broken?
No. I think this is for "disabling it", because it can interfere with keyboard typing, moving the cursor.

Recently I read an article with the technical overview on why 4, 8, 16, and 32 GB are no enough.
You can always use the RAM in different ways, even if your programs do not use all of it. So, the more RAM is always better.

Even if you don't know how to use that extra memory, there are FS caches, which kernel automatically uses.

At least, you can also mount /tmp as tmpfs.

Which is you prefer browse internet between Firefox and Chrome?
I use Firefox, but I personally think, what it is in a bad state right now, waiting for servo to come in (but without these crutches like browser.html, just instead of gecko in current Firefox). Chrome will just ate all of my RAM.

I also prefer Firefox, sadly Google now supports Linux with Chrome/Chromium better than Mozilla.
This is very sad. I need to use extensions to have things like native notifications and gnome-keyring support.

You cannot remove GDrive support from Nautilus either AFAIK. You just don't have to use it and it's not visible, just like you can remove Pocket icon from the bar and forget about it. I mean... I'm not a proponent of closed services, but bundling their support in free software is common which is why I think the Pocket case is a bit of a storm in a glass of water.
GDrive is a gvfs driver, and it can be just disabled in configure, I think. But it is enabled in Fedora builds, because it IS useful. So, the only option here to remove any nonfree stuff, is to use something like "FSF-approved GNU version of Gentoo GNU/Hurd"...

But they are also claimed, what they will make Pocket as an bundled extension, which can be removed or disabled. If they still did'nt did it already.

FESCO is more worried about enforced extension signing without possibility to disable it, then with some addon which uses nonfree services or automatically installing openh264, or other things... https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Firefox-Fedora-Unsigned

Damian

My understanding of the Firefox signing thing is that normal users are supposed to use the "locked" version, while power users who want to install non-signed extensions can do so by installing a different version of firefox

is this not case? am I misunderstanding?
