Well, it could be made like an applet. Toggled off by default.
At this Scale it would need to be a Standard for menus so you can place them anywhere

A Menu Api XD

~*can use a global menu

There is one thing I liked in Unity. Application menu showing in the top bar.
https://github.com/p-e-w/plotinus is even better IMHO, but I don't use enough of GTK3 applications for it to be useful

I never really liked a global menu. Makes things confusing with multiple desktops, may windows, and when focus-follows-mouse is enabled it is downright unusable

apps without a menubar look nicer, though

Unity also had an option to hide the menu bar on a window's titlebar. That was great IMHO

Can I get F17 builds from Fedora???
No. It's absolutely, completely and utterly deprecated. You may find a live CD in a Museum, though.

Yes, but keep in mind this brings or can bring serious security problems. Beefy Miracle is already some years old. it may contain a lot of flaws as nobody updated it since then.

Lua is a programming language and wayland is a compositor for "windows" on a screen. With a binding, I can now use the wayland compositor using the (easy to learn) Lua language.

Lua is written in the C language and has a very nice C API to call C functions from Lua and vice versa. When you "bind" some C software to Lua using this API, it's called a binding. We bind Lua to the C code.

Yes, display server, not compositor, sorry...

That would be e.g. weston.

Marc

Most scripting languages are written in C and have an API to expose C functions to the scripting language: Perl, Python, Tcl, even Java. And of course Lua, which was designed for such use cases.

Rancher is a Server OS made for running Docker, Alpine is ... different - 39MB for XFCE and really easy to install for such a Distro

its like, 7 Commands to get to GUI installed
