Just pay the license. Totally worth it :)

I didn't find it very slow, and I will always prefer something without license issues. Sublime is nice, but....

What you should worry is plugins
And I don't think they are going anywhere

What you should worry is plugins
yeah, but the plugins can only do what the editor allows them to do, Sublime allows for some stuff while in Atom you can modify practically everything
but I agree, Atom is too big and too slow for me as well
no perfect solution I guess

Try Ctrl+Alt+F1 or Ctrl+Alt+F7

Try Ctrl+Alt+F1 or Ctrl+Alt+F7
Ctrl+Alt+F1 is default to loging session, GDM in this case.
Ctrl+Alt+F2 is the current graphical session, and it goes as you log in with another user from GDM or tty if you use the text based login.

MS Windows standard?
Believe or not, it was a requirement from Microsoft to the hardware manufacturers to set dedicated hardware functions to the FN keys as primary.
On GNOME they do the same as in any Windows version starting from 8.
