Fire him.

Probably working at Microsoft or Google now
Even at these companies, the culture is slowly changing. Have friends who recently graduated and have gone to those places.

But seriously, I'm happy about Linus way because it keeps the kernel safe. Not as systemd devs, you report a bug and they simply say: "wont fix" <— This is an asshole, a big one.

Awesome. :) I've been following a lot of the cool developments going on with .NET in Fedora. Happy to see this community getting more involved with the open source community. We have potential to convert more people over to Linux yet. ;)
The most horrible thing Microsoft ever did to windows, is getting .net cross platform, literally every .net developer I know (web developer) switched to linux after this step.

Heheh. I also think Microsoft is trying to refocus their business strategy to push their cloud offerings more too, and have people use their software on servers or different environments

But it's seemingly at the cost of technical people sticking to Windows.

What I'd be worried about, is when Microsoft would start slowly adding little, but convenient features to .net, what are only going to work under MS platforms for whatever reasons, so .net would technically be crossplatform, but in practice... :) but still, a nice move from them

If this really goes on for years, then it's surely understandable. But it creates kind of a bubble, where it's hard for new people to start contributing because of that kind of rants

You can discuss the matter in a cultural manner, or like this. I wouldn't like to work with a person who speaks like this all the time

not saying that Linus is wrong in this case, quite the opposite - I agree with him, but still

Let's talk now about Fedora Land...

People sending mails to the mailing lists html formated and top-posting it T_T

T_T

People working hard on making Rawhide the most stable as possible (Adam Williamson and Dennis Gilmore)... then you have people pushing unstable stuff to stable release branches instead of testing it on their on laptops because Rawhide is too unstable... what an irony.

This company isn't that bad, I understand being Linux guy make company like MS an evil for u, anyway I can freely switch to python. If such things happened, u know the point is how to program, lang is just a tool.

Disgusting.
Don't say that. He can work on whatever he likes to.

This is a very broad term that isn't well-defined. ;) This statement in itself seems brash given what we're talking about. There's a firm balance between someone being an asshole and not having quality work.
Actually someone can be both (arsehole having quality work) or none of them (nice person with horrible work). The ideal is to be a nice person with quality work. But it's a proven fact that we don't live in an ideal world sadly.

If they got fired is because they suck at it.
No. That's not true. If you're going to work in a team you need to know how to deal with people, and most of companies require this feature as must to hire.

Maybe in YOUR company.
No, it's not in HIS company. It's a widely applied rule. And I'm not aware that Google does tolerate this kind of behaviour, I don't really know about Microsoft.

That's for sure. Also it's different when you're the leader of a project and everything lies on your shoulders than when you're just a part. Linus Torvalds is not a part, he started the whole thing.

Swift110
24.03.2017

I disagree I have spoken to people that work with him closely. Its an exaggeration

That goes back to my original point. If someone is a jerk then don't deal with them. He has made it clear that he is not changing his approach so there is no point in continuing to complain about it

Kohane

There are rules, there are methods. You know them, apply them. If you don't like the way an open source project is developed and you have the expertise, fork the project and do things in your own way. Torvalds doesn't insult for no reason or rants at everyone, only when things go wrong or people do what they're already told not to do.

Michał

Exactly, you know his temperment so either don't piss him off or go knit some socks lol
Yeah but that attitude is IMHO kinda shitty, as many people will just contribute to another project instead, so they won't have to deal with it

I respect the dedication to keep Linux clean and nice, but it also makes the contributor group kinda closed to people who either did it or are forced to do it

By "forced" I mean people who are paid to write stuff in Linux kernel and trying to put the stuff upstream is in their job description

Perhaps but what does it accomplish to complain about it?
