In the case of MacBooks, made in China, assembled in China, designed in the USA lol

Well some CPU manufacturers don't respect human rights and use wars to steal silicon and minerals from zones in conflict.

Well... that's subject to discussion. How likely is that anyone will go to China (that isn't the easiest country to visit) to inspect the factories where these chips are manufactured?

天荣
01.03.2017
10:45:52
In case you didn't know, first world companies start wars in African countries to steal the materials while locals are busy fighting civil wars.

As payment, they get weapons.

天荣
01.03.2017
10:46:48
That's pretty well known and documented. And?
Well, easy: Intel doesn't do any of these.

Worker's conditions are a different discussion.

Gwindor
01.03.2017
10:47:18
Eh, want to know where they are getting materials from? Disassemble the hardware and make an isotope analysis. It might give you a clue where they were obtained.

Or, do the same with resourses that are used to make the hardware.

Kohane
01.03.2017
10:48:04
Risk is too high to even consider it.
I think is the other way round. The risk that any US citizen will travel forth and back to China to inspect these factories or to Africa or any other remote place to check conditions are highly remote.

Gwindor
01.03.2017
10:48:33
2nd ways is easier because I don't know what kind of processing is used during manufacturing and it is could interfere with the analysis.

I know of one more ethical CPU producer. MCST. They aren't allowed to use foreign components on their personal production sites, iirc, so whatever they produce themself is 100% ethical because made in Russia from Russian materials.

But there is very small amout made and it is very expensive.

But, x86 compatible.
