USA is terrible for many things, but being a nobody and able to sue even the biggest conglomerate is a positive thing.
And reaching the top of reddit with and stupid story of how you manage to become millionaire after suing a big company. Should I sue Lenovo for removing the trackpad buttons on the ??40 generation or sue apple for getting rid of the Esc and Fn?

Hey, after installation Fedora Server only uses 16 of the available 250gb of the servers hard drive and doesnt display anything beyond - anybody having any idea why?

@Wolfshappen - Fedora's built-in encryption option when installing the system does not recognise SSD and HDD altogether, does it? I'm wondering because I have both and I'm interested in encrypting everything by default. I've heard of the trade-offs with speed writing and reading files but that doesn't signify a huge problem. What does concern me is the fact that I wouldn't have both hard drives working, rather the installation setup chooses HDD and SDD is left out. Am I wrong on my assumptions and background knowledge? What would be your suggestions to make it happen, yet allow both drives to work together as intended?

I'm used to SSD and I don't want to lose it. I want to preserve it at all costs.

Select both drives when installing and select encryption

Google
Tobias?

that will enforce encryption on everything

else you need to partition manually

I have a more interesting proposal tough: Would you only Store data on the hdd?

If so, gnome-disk-manager allows you to create encrypted volumes

Albert

@xvitaly, @jflory7 - Vitaly was correct. Okular allows you to see the forms once created within a .PDF file. Therefore, it's an easy to use workaround. Even though, I didn't like it so much because I was installing KDE libraries and packages to make Okular work. I'd love to find a Xfce-native solution. Thanks for your suggestion though. It's appreciated as always.

So install on the SSD and once installed create an encrypted Volume (LUKS+ext4) on the hdd

Which is something I don't actually know how to deal with. Haha.

Hmm... Sounds slick. Doesn't that mean data would be stored in a slower drive, though? HDD is slower than SSD. That's something I don't want to do...

You can't get around data on a hdd being slow

Thats why its great for movies because if the drivehead just reads a continouus stream it can easily reach 70 mbyte/s

if you have gnome, in the gnome-tweak-tool, there's a "Autostart" panel, to add a program or a terminal command to the autostart at boot sequence

The SSD retrieves the files from the encrypted HDD and the speed rate doesn't get screwed as the installation was made on the SSD in the first place, correct? It is the main drive which decides the speed of the writing and reading between them so.

Regular installation on the SSD. When booted, install the package and create an encrypted partition on HDD. Would that partition become /home?

I dont think gparted can do this, if I remember correctly gparted sees encrypted partitions as unallocated space

you'll probably need to use LUKS tools like cryptsetup

and it will wipe the data off your external drive to do it if memory serves

that link looks like a nice easy tutorial covering the steps :)

though if you encrypt the drive with LUKS, it won't be able to be unlocked and read by anything other than a Linux computer. So you won't be able to plug it into Windows PCs for sure, not sure about Mac

there might be something you can install to make it work on those systems though *shrugs*

I understand. I have been reading the tutorial and it submits the user that I allow to read the HD. Imagine, if I format my linux, and create another user I will have xom new permissions ... that is exhausting ...

well then if you're just using it as a random external drive for dumping stuff on from user to user and system to system, after you've run: sudo chown -R adrian /run/media/anovelo/e2902cbe-7e2d-4fb2-8cfe-f50ba9b80795/ run: sudo chmod -R 777 /run/media/anovelo/e2902cbe-7e2d-4fb2-8cfe-f50ba9b80795/ (where the username and device name in the /run/media paths are obviously specific to you and your device that is). I know perms 777 is bad, but at the end of the day if the drive is encrypted and password protected anyway it doesn't really matter does it.

the ssd has nothing to do with this and there is no way to avoid having to suffer slower read from data stored on the hdd.

Albert

01:43:07
No. Your pc retrieves files from that hdd and it will not become /home this way
Would be kind of difficult to get ahead how this environment plays out for me at the beginning.

it doesnt matter - you either have to manually set partitions or add the hdd to crypttab manually once encrypted

Unless you want it to be /home and therefore make everything super-slow that reads from home like... chrome evolution thunderbird firefox....
