I'm not using it, i used in the past. And CentOS still use yum, I use it everyday in my work

What Linux program is like that? I think everything can run everywhere, though there are some subtle issues (like, requirement of certain libraries that nobody yet packaged for given distro), it's not a problem if you're motivated enough

I did try installing it on my Fedora a couple of times but it failed.. I don't remember why..

sometimes it's not enough, I wanted to use Aegisub on Fedora, but it required some obscure libraries I couldn't find in repos and so on, and I gave up after a hour or so

I found reference online to other people having this problem erratically in the past and the solution for ubuntu seems to be to run a command that updates the ca certs but I can't find any fedora equivelant

i tried openjdk off the repo and installing jre8 from the java website

I wasn't able to make it work on 8 either, switched to 7 and it helped

hmmmm where do I get 7 from ?

But that was on Arch Linux.

i know it works on 8 I've done it on fedora on other machines, its just this specific one. It's like all the java ca certs aren't there, and I cant find how the hell to fix that

It's not a matter of like it. But having Russian and RPM Fussion side to side, Russian have more software and updates come faster

Why do you need to install dnf on Debian?, sounds insteresting.

allows for dependancy hell

apt and apt-get are different packages. apt is the equivalent to apt-get + apt-cache. And IMHO apt-get has better dependencies management than dnf, at least when it comes to removing stuff.

Is this Ubuntu or Debian? maybe some packages that serves as dependencies are not packaged yet, or they aren't in the official repo, only available via ppa if this is Ubuntu.

biggest advantage would be that you get your apps contained, you can enforce permissions like network etc, as its basically running in a container
