My next planned step is to set up ssh auth with delays betweeb failed login attempts

I was sad after seeing MS SQL requirement of 3.5GB RAM while trying to install it on CentOS system with only 2GB x3

Morning

If the importance max is the kernel. What distribution use the last kernel Linux released ?

Gwindor
27.01.2017
11:47:16
You can always compile the kernel yourself. As of distros, I guess, those are Arch, Gentoo.

天荣

Arch is pretty up to date.

Gentoo too. Sure.

Fedora is the most updated non-rolling I believe.

Linus himself likes Fedora a lot

Paulão
27.01.2017

I'm confused, Linus is not the only kernel developer, but I think if it uses fedora, it should bother to make the kernel run round in what it's using

Welcome to open source, helping the community helps SOME company somewhere around the globe, so in consequence you're working for free in many companies at the same time.

I'm happy to be part of the community. But, there could be a default repository for different types of users regardless of the distribution it uses. Well, depending on the distribution I use I can not find the program I want.

Paulão
27.01.2017
12:39:15
Yes it has several variables, but the user could decide which type of repository he would like, as well as which distribution he uses. It would be a clean Linux, you would leave it as you wanted. Using the features of all other distributions ...

Gwindor

12:56:23
CentOS is a server oriented distro as for me. Different usecases

Using one PC though...

I live in a poor region of a poor country but I need a laptop at least. So, that'd be a laptop. And probably with Arch Linux.

Michał

What Linux program is like that? I think everything can run everywhere, though there are some subtle issues (like, requirement of certain libraries that nobody yet packaged for given distro), it's not a problem if you're motivated enough

or I don't understand something :)

Gwindor
27.01.2017
13:00:51
I guess, "out of the box" is meant :)

Michał
27.01.2017
13:01:43
Well, distros are usually a community efforts, if something is not working out of the box, then it only meant that nobody was interested in this enough to make it work

Gwindor
27.01.2017
13:01:45
Because in the end, you always can use the power of make install

Michał
27.01.2017
13:02:22
sometimes it's not enough, I wanted to use Aegisub on Fedora, but it required some obscure libraries I couldn't find in repos and so on, and I gave up after a hour or so

Michał
27.01.2017
13:02:37
that's why Flatpak or so would be nice

Michał
27.01.2017
13:03:03
but it's not like Flatpak is the first idea to solve this issue, and none of them suceeded...

libs could be found out of repos as well and installed manually
Yeah, but when you're installing them manually then after 10th dependency that you have to hunt over the net you just lose motivation to do it

It can be done, sure, but I'm personally too lazy :P

Gwindor
27.01.2017

You can enabled updates-testing repo and have the most recent version of the kernel before its arrive to the stable branches.

In a more general broad point of view, Fedora serves as test bed for Linux Distribution in general, plenty of new technology is tested and improved by Fedora users and Devs i.e. NetworkManager, GNOME3, systemd, Python3, Wayland, Flatpak.

The optimize the OS for more than one Intel Processor generation.

Not enough for my OCPD.

And you can see the installed ones by adding installed to the same command. sudo dnf repo-pkgs repo-id list installed To get the repository ID use: dnf repolist

Gentoo is a bit faster anyway
Only if you have OCPD.
