I use Plasma often.
How does it perform in Fedora ? I have been using gnome for some years but I want to take a look at it, but I read bad reviews for plasma in Fedora.

In my laptop works nicely. Far better than KDE 4.
My laptop has 4 G RAM
I rather like Cinnamon. But Plasma 5 is my second desktop and I use it often.

4 G ram and you use plasma? Mine is also 4 G ram, but I use xfce. Plasma is too heavy, in my opinion.

I've few plasmoids. Just RAM usage and weather.
Besides that the task bar with its little things.

KDE 4 was heavy. Plasma 5 works nicely. Same for Cinnamon.

Jobava

paradoxically, I find cinnamon very heavy, may be my particular setup or a problem with Fedora's packaging of it
much heavier than even gnome

Ardian
02.05.2016
22:12:40
Yes I have had the same performance with cinnamon, lagging a bit. Gnome is very stable with me, but just to do a change sometimes

Kohane

Jobava

very easy conceptually, I still recoil at the thought that 2/3 of people in Europe will be forced to learn some way of windows 10 just to get by
since government services and all jobs will require some level of IT usage proficiency
the windows interface is all over the place, very complicated, full of traps and inconsistencies

Kohane

22:48:12
I particularly dislike Windows 8

@Kohane @Jobava yeah we still use Windows 7 at most places at work

Jobava

@bittin old windoze interface is easier, but it also has many of the same traps and inconsistencies
like drag-move, a bane even for proficient users

bittin

22:54:11
yeah guess we gonna update more boxes to 10 then 8.1 atleast

Jobava

although realistically, the bigger danger comes from the web, where inexperienced users face a minefield
@bittin you have hard dependencies on windows?
I have a need for activex for testing some equipment and also interacting with a portal from a Korean company (Koreans are very mired into activeX, with no hope)

bittin
02.05.2016
23:02:49
@Jobava guess the hard dependcy is my boss, however some students have to run Photoshop CC and some other stuff so yaeh
but for some classrooms where they only use Word + Firefox or Chrome, some Linux distro would work too
but i am sadly not the person deciding

Jobava

do you have to suffer license inspections?
not sure if MS still does that

bittin

no idea we got valid VLSC licenses however so would be fine if they did anyways
