If you can the highest recommendation for Limux users is to rely on firepro and Rx4X0 cards for now, as they have a fully open, working driver straight from amd

And Nvidia will continue to fuck over customers with hypervisor detection, 3.5G memes, Wood Screws...
Their Card speeds match up to quadro and Gtx series in all ways, equally strong in directx 11/12 and opengl.
The only hardship is an rx480 placed against a titan or gtx 1080
Because if you have that much Money Amd just can't supply yet
And consider, Amd cards wipe the floor with Nvidia when it comes to computing - thats why bitcoin gpu rigs run amd.
And thats what you want from Blender/Video Editing - Compute Power.

Bitcoin isnt profitable anymore, thats true
But scrypt-like Coins and even more advanced omes keep coming out and are increasingly hard to mine with specialized hardware
But in the end, if you want 3D Computation Power, Speed in Video Encoding/Acceleration or support a Company that doesnt smash your head with a rock for trying to use it under a hypervisor - go amd.

They absolutely arent. The 480 made them such a massive sales boost that Nvidia cranked prices up to still make the same profit

i don't thing AMD really dying, many people, and especialy gamers still preffer AMD over NVIDIA, mostly for Price/Performance.

There are some hints in the process of installation the driver. One of them says that user have to recompile kernel to install nvidia driver updates
no good

Just use sudo dnf install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 on x86_64 if you want to run i686 games.

akmod- is just a script to build kernel module packages for installed kernels.

hello,
I have fedora 25 installed on my lenovo w520 with nvidia optimus.
I am using opensource drivers and i am not able to change the brightness neither from keyboard shortcuts or from gnome indicator menu. However the following command works:
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness <<< 1000
Tried various solutions from internet but not working.
Please let me know if you know a work around.
