Did you follow their recent Adventures and closely working together with Microsoft to offer Developers a not-so-shitty-that-they-cant-use-it Ubuntu under the hood?

So they dont get on Linux to be webdevs but can remain on Windows which is kind of horrible

Home | Matrix.org https://matrix.org/

jep

wow, cool! Server-side opensource too?
You can host your own or use the one riot provides (which has a irc bridge too)

Matrix / Riot is srsly awesome. We've been covering it in the HFOSS course I'm the teaching assistant for this semester. You can use it for IRC as well, like for Freenode. So you can connect to a channel and remain persistently connected from the Riot client.

It's srsly the new hotness. I tried audio / video in its first week of launch in the summer, but it wasn't all too great for international calls yet. But domestic seemed to work fine. It could have also been poor connections for some of the folks from India who were trying to connect.

Some Fedora contributors (well, one that I know of specifically) switched her entire client over to Riot successfully.

I'm planning on writing a guide for how to use it with IRC on the Fedora Magazine this month. Just need to find time.

@xvitaly - Your help has been great as well. Thanks a ton y'all.

I've been hearing a lot of Matrix/Riot for the past few days.. Everyone is showering praises.. I really need to see what the deal is
IRC made simpler. Matrix is fully-encrypted; although some persons do not like it or at least didn't seem to like it that much back in the days as it is open source but not free as in freedom...

Google
Albert

Would you recommended using it?
I've used it a couple of times (Matrix). I am not the best to make opinions on it as the very least I did was chatting around with some folks from other FLOSS-oriented groups. I didn't actually used it that much, long, or anything else... Besides that, it seems rock stable and get the job done quite accurately. I'd say I am fond to try it deeper, undoubtedly. Concerning Riot, I'd say pretty much the same...

Sure thing, sir. I do nothing but persuade Windows users not to use it any longer. Furthermore, I install privacy-oriented add-ons on their laptops and handsets around. Such as Privacy Badger, HTTPS Everywhere and uBlock Origin.

A root server hosted at hetzner in Germany that is exempt from Mass Data Collection by law (officially atleast) that is running openvpn, a decent firewall like opnsense and in a container runs a tor node so you have lots of questionable traffic tjat can't be attributed to you even if its seized.
This is way way way high-level decision. Although it sounds a hundred percent secure, I doubt it is that reachable for the regular Internet users (even privacy-concerned individuals like me)... Wouldn't using OpenVPN may be enough? Does Fedora comes bundled with Opnsense?

I can't find the comment about making some uBlock Origin hosts file work. Do you mind forwarding it, please? @Tobias4X.

The private Server may no, thats why its great if you know a person into techo on this level that you can trust your surfdata with. OpenVPN is enough but the Endpoint you connect to is the problem - ovpn itself doesnt offer a "default", free Server to connect to OPNsense is a BSD-based Firewall, i use it under Fedora by forcing it to use pci-passtrough on a network card mut your results may vary Learn more on their Porject Page: https://opnsense.org/

"Under Fedora": read as "virtual Machine as close to metal as possible but still separate"

Tobias?

05:28:48
Select the Profile you want to edit, ideally change it to the default profile for your network there and then you can disable/enable Services/Ports/IP's ect to your hearts content

you can import profiles into the Network manager so they show up in your Network selection and you can toggle them off in the gnome settings

This is the running Firewall COnfiguration

It'd mean if you had a web server running it could not be reached

Outgoing traffic is possible by hand: http://serverfault.com/questions/618164/block-outgoing-connections-on-rhel7-centos7-with-firewalld

Its basically a "Deny Anything OUT" rule followed by "Allow 80 out" ect. Make sure to allow port 53/tcp out and 443/tcp
