boing or annoying cache download
Oh, you mean that you don't want to wait for packages to download?

BTW, what's your mother tongue, @DarioLesca ? If you don't mind me to ask.

I dont't get it.
He behaved like a 5-years-old child. And then stopped. There wasn't much in it.

I have had the chance to do so infinite times, I'm a good guy, and I have always pointed to this mistake when friends around left their laptops after a sudo something.
And I'm very bad girl and walk away without saying a word, just to point it out after they have some problem. OR I do some weird thing in their laptop and then when they protest/complain/wonder what happend I'm like "Oh, I saw it unprotected and thought it would be fun..."

I think Telegram is mostly targeted at teens and people rather inexperienced with technology, so you'll catch up in no time :) also there was an IRC gateway some time ago if you prefer that

it's not working currently due to spam and low demand

yeah, but the feature set (stickers? gifs?) and general overview makes it look like more targeted at similar group as WhatsApp or Messenger, it's just that WhatsApp was first (or at least somehow got more popular first), and in Messenger you get all your FB friends by default

so now Telegram users are mostly people who don't want WhatsApp nor Messenger, yet want similar featureset

so I would guess IRC is rather your cup of tea :)

#fedora-telegram on freenode, but not bridged currently

of course there's still #fedora there, which is pretty active (I would even risk saying that it has more traffic than this group, which is not quiet)

It has been the case in too many countries. Besides it’s phone-like that many elders find it easy to use, while other apps like Messenger or Telegram seem hard for them.

I didn't use WhatsApp for a few years now (when I did it was still paid...), but I always thought that Telegram looks like almost 1:1 copy. Isn't it so?

IMHO it doesn't matter, I just wouldn't accept such contacts. Telegram has practically no entry barrier, what is not true for example in case of IRC or XMPP

Because it added features present in other messaging apps, stickers from Facebook, calls from WhatsApp, etc And still lack a few from my point of view.

Both horrible things that I don’t use unless I’m forced to. So I can’t care less if tomorrow disappear or get invaded by a flock of yelling teens throwing pink kisses and hearts everywhere.

Well, I have both, Messenger and Telegram. And all the teenagers seem to gather around WhatsApp or Facebook/Messenger I seldom see one here.

Facebook's suprisingly useful as a calendar, where you can add public events and see updates about them. Of course I would like something else to be used for that, but this one works ;)

I manage my calendar events through Google and it's surprisingly good. I get integration with the GNOME shell calendar and it just sync between my mobile and the desktop.

yeah, but this way you don't get calendar updates from the organizers unless they send you an email with an ical file (and this is getting rare outside of corporate world)

Setting up own's server for messaging is too annoying for most of the people. They tend to use other existing service, i.e. Facebook

These free service store anything on their server and set-up properly for gernel people

I had tried XMPP but none of my friends even know what it is

XMPP was popular at one point. Of course, noone knew it by the "XMPP" name ("Jabber" was more popular, but still a technical name for the protocol). But Google Talk or Tlen.pl was widely known around my friends

those services even had s2s...

even facebook's chat was based on XMPP some time ago

I had it in my previous company (closed to outside, but still), but even if people would use public servers with s2s it would be great

I'm now using IRC+Bitlbee for my IM needs, but I need to investigate how to do it using XMPP+Transports on my own

Hmm. I have used facebook for birthday calendar in the past but I have synced almost everything from my Facebook account to my google account. So I guess, except for calender updates from friends or organizers, I don't need it anymore. :P

I think dreamhost provides XMPP accounts to their shared hostings

I remember there was a big fad for XMPP among geeks in Poland around 2005, it was an IM of choice back then, but I think the fad died, sadly
