I have advised some windows users to use 7zip instead of winrar and winzip, this help to not deal with the annoying license messages, it has better ratio compression, it Free as in Freedom software, but people stick with winrar and winzip because they are used to it... even to the annoying license that they will never buy.

Honestly, if I were using Windows I think I'd use WinRAR. It's great and has many features. On GNU/Linux I care about freedom and free software but on Windows I'm jailed anyways, so might as well.

Adobe does so great software. I know it's proprietary and evil, but it is also very good and for many of their products there are simply no alternatives at all.

Luckily I'm a computer scientist so all I need is an IDE. But I'm sad for those who do rely on proprietary software for their job.

I'm not saying it has any.

Simply saying it has great features. I never used 7-zip as on Windows I don't care about free software. 99% of the time you download a binary anyway.

It's not like you can type two commands and get the program's sources from the repos, then automatically get the dependencies and compile.

Windows is so much behind technologies we've had for decades.

as for my experience. 7-zip is way faster and more convinient in use

and tbh, most of tehse people's data isn;'t really worth encrypting

Well, cant reproduce - my gmail connects painlessly, my gcalendar werks... But i use imap only. Pop3 is crap, rather tell evolution to sync all mails to local instead

Maybe there is a better one, but this respects permissions, recursive and also compress while copying
