To login to Gnome you don't need to remove KDE or any other desktop you already have. Just install it and pick the desktop you like from menu when the *DM appears.

How come GNOME Photos isn't part of the Fedora Workstation install?
GNOME was shilling their new photo manipulation features all over the place, but it's not included in the default Fedora install.

I want to buy a ThinkPad to run Fedora, what model do you think is better? Thoughts?

Lesik
23.09.2016

Depends on your needs. Do you need long batter life? How conservative are you about buying a ThinkPad with the "new" ThinkPad design versus the "old" one?

Eduardo
23.09.2016
23:28:01
I need a good display resolution, and a long battery life, I'd prefer a old design

I have seen a lot of redhatters with a ThinkPad models but I don't know exactly what models they use

The models are categorized in T, W and X (as well as others but those are usually not recommended because they have a worse build quality). The X series (meaning X240, X250...) have a 12" display, the T4*0 series (meaning T440, T450...) a 14" display and the T5*0 series (meaning T540, T550) have a 15" display. The W series are 16" and 17", but they were discontinued in 2016.

Thanks ardían and L, I'll look for these models

Most people you see at conferences probably use an old ThinkPad, that is 4+ years old. These have had a long time to ripe and have great Linux support even with old kernels like in Debian or CentOS. Also, the older ThinkPad have a different design and keyboard, that diehard ThinkPad fans swear on. Those older ones would be X220, X230, T400, T60 and some others. The older ones (T400 and T60) are also the only ThinkPads supported by Libreboot, if you're into that.

Ardian
23.09.2016

And the series that have an s in the end like T450s (are much lighter).

These old models are also very cheap, you can get them for a few hundred Euros (in used condition, of course, they're not being produced any more).
On the downside, their specs aren't non-plus-ultra (in case you need that for compiling software or something) and their battery life usually sucks (2-3 hours) because the batteries were produced 4-5+ years ago and have since worn out.

In contrast, the newer models (newer models meaning "new design", so everything that's *40 and higher) have a great battery life, some articles claim 20 hours but I've never gotten more than 8 hours on lowest settings (but nevertheless impressive).
So your checklist should be:
- Do I want the "new" ones or the "old" ones?
- How many inches should the screen be?
- Do I care about Libreboot?
- How much money do I want to spend? (Newer models can cost over a thousand Euros.)
I think I should create an infographic with arrows asking questions and pointing to the right model for the chosen answers.
