I would agree with this on a serious note. I am in love with Linux and opensource technologies and i am huge fan of foss but still they are just tools. You have to pick right tool for right job. I am through that stage where my sole OS was arch linux running openbox on top of it and terminals everywhere. I bought a beast work station laptop just so i can use windows in vm if ever needed. Point is they are tools and you may have to use one of em in your life at one point regardless of the usecase.

I would agree with this on a serious note. I am in love with Linux and opensource technologies and i am huge fan of foss but still they are just tools. You have to pick right tool for right job. To me all my tools are better off in FOSS than in the windows world. tough I accept they are tools, I would choose a tool that is FOSS for the job. If that is a little compromise I am okie to live with it. Afterall its not just the tools that matter, sometimes the idealogy the tool stands for also matters.

My school forces all the MS tools for courses and projects so the students and most course instructers dont know about linux or its equivalent tools most of time. I wanted to use foss so i did it even though i couldnt get any support from instructors, even though i had to spend hours in forums to just find and install a tool to do projects. So i know what you are talking about and i follow the same idealogy. I even lost grades at times because i didnt follow a tool my instructor asked to. So you see i have given up a lot to follow foss and i am still using it. However their may come a point in life where you are stuck with using MS software, that was my point basically! Dont say you will never use it. You sometimes may just have to, there may be no escaping it. You dont know whats ahead in your life.

Look that is why I told, I live my life this way, and I dont need prop s/w to do things. There are very few things that I am using in the prop world, and nearly all of them exluding telegram is in my smart phone. And if I were in a situation where I am forced to use MS, I know communities that can raise voice again this, and also take due steps to talk to my school/univ about the need for FOSS in education. Yes, that would mean, lower grades, thats okie, its a trade off between, how much of idealogy also we personally want to withstand. Again, this is me, and I am not wanting to force this on anybody

what if homework is supposed to be on windows forms + C++? What if homework is supposed to be on tableau, what if homework is supposed to be on ASP. You see that is what happened with me. Best part was i never really did as they wanted it. Anyways i managed of course the hardway but the way i liked it.
