Downloading Fedora from a Windows machine... Oi vey...

The download button should give you the ISO, not the media writer ?

Also, Fedora Media Writer disables minimize... Urghhh

I used ot once because the people around me only had windows machines and the image writer they used before which has so much logic about creating broken grub configs, didn't work well

Just a bit annoying going to download the ISO and it provides a different download than if you weren't using Windows. I guess people assume you want the "click to install" crap just because you're on Windows.

The site shouldn't change just because you're using a different client ?‍♀️

I can also flash it with Etcher and get the same results. What I'm saying is that the downloads page for Fedora changes just because I'm using Windows at the moment. The Download button downloads the Fedora Media Writer instead of the ISO, which is what it does if you were using Linux.

I got the ISO after a few tries figuring out why the hell I didn't have the ISO and just had FMW.

I can get the ISO fine now that it's apparent what the Fedora website is doing

There's a link on the side that just gives you the ISO. It's just a bit meh to set up the site like that

There's a difference between having smart downloads for a program like Chrome to download and install, and "smart" downloads for an OS

With Chrome, clearly it makes sense for it to give you an .exe if you're using Windows, but for an ISO it shouldn't matter what OS you use because you're downloading an OS, not a program!

Just a bit of an oversight :)

Well maybe being on linux they assume you already have some writer tool on the system like suse writer or the media writer

And keep in mind, if you use the minimal amount - no system updates to newer versions, no additional programs, 0 space in /home...

If you want to give linux a try first use it in a virtual machine.

It will run a little slower than one can expect in the end and no game emulation but if you like it you can just replace windows in the end or assign half that platter or more.

Le Schyken

@BruceWyn006, if you've already got an EFI partition, you need to tell Fedora where that mount point is. If you're dual-booting with Windows, you need to create one.

512MB should be enough for an EFI partition, so you won't need to allocate more than that. 20GB for the rest of the system should be fine for a while.

Not if all 4 are used without a single one to boot from already.
