The BadRabbit virus is masking for Symantec programs
I just have imagined how people can catch BadRabbit onto their computer, and they thinkinkg "Hmmm... We need an Anti-virus to delete this badrabbit, let's try that one from Symantec..."
It's so funny

I think the funnier situation was with the Linux ransomware caught by the guy on the Gentoo forums, who was running firefox as root
I read about it and was like... why he was running firefox as root

but on the other hand it's not even changing that much when you're the only computer user, your files will get encrypted anyway and the OS files are more or less disposable

In Slackware, for example, you should configure the sudo before using it and sometimes I just use the su, because I'm too lazy for sudo...maybe same situation.

It's not very often an issue. There are certainly cases in which it could cause problems, but isn't explicitly going to.

That’s a bad habit.
Bad habit that came Windows Xp . Lot of them are web developers who uses Apache server htdocs folder. Since they have absolutely no idea how to set correct permissions on that folder, they end up login to system as root. Lol

That’s where extra education comes in game. :)

Tobias?

if you login as root httpd will still start as apache.
Or do you mean editing files as root because they ... oh right.
Reeducate them.
Or make vagrantfiles so they dont need to give a shit.

Old habits are good. Unless they’re bad.

Akarshan

...that shouldn't change anyhting
They login to create and edit htdocs folder which is accessible only to root. Even I have no idea what's the logic behind running everything as root even the Firefox browser they test their web sites on.

huh what does rsync-auto do

Tobias?
25.10.2017

Because vboxsf sucks so rsync is the better (especially crossplatform) option.

so, what folders do you use it on?

Michał

why even vagrant, docker-compose with a shared folder should let you use apache for testing just fine
