There is a simpler thing - not putting in all the tracking code and possible bugs and instead just using a Browser that doesnt put in more and more data sucking.

Heck you can selfhost firefox sync. I'd use it if ff was viable on desktop for me.

If you are concerned about having the same version as prod then i'd recommend making a vm with the same os, installed applications and all - or docker.

The limitation is openvpn not being used. :P Else you could change to a non-hardware spedup cipher and see if its the aes unit of your cpu throttling - or or or
