Disconnected and reconnected the usb wifi card and it does recognise it at least,

there's no "easy" way to make this happen, sadly. you could look into the driver source code and see which specific IDs it looks for, but I can't guarantee you're gonna get it working this easily

You can try your luck, verifying hardware changes between hardware revisions on some wikidevi mirror. If minor you can just add it to the known hardware list and hook to the driver.
