there are windows native images for python
as i showed here, for the python oci images hosted on docker hub, windows as an os is supported
polyduekes
you can use docker then if that's the case

Docker on windows runs on a virtualized linux
harmony5 🇺🇳 ⌤
In fact, docker only runs natively on linux as it is based on linux specific technologies. On every other OS, it is run on a small virtualized linux, generally using the OS's native virtualization technology.

there is "Windows Containers" that cook their own non-OCI thing
I was talking on OCI and podman context. But, for my information, Without linux? How? would appreciate it if you let me know.

I have tried to understand what you mean (doing what CoC said). I have done my research in windows containers and here's what I found on the Microsoft documentation. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/virtualization/windowscontainers/quick-start/run-your-first-container?source=recommendations And the first step was to install docker. P.S: I like your 300G FC in your profile 😁

well if appjail, ocijail supports oci images on freebsd then i guess trying them won't hurt
polyduekes

really bad decision, the syntax is super annoying and the amount of steps to get the same stuff a simple one podman command does takes three commands with appjail, going back to podman
polyduekes
Check out this channel/group: @appjail hope it helps
nah, i don't see any advantage of using appjail over podman so thanks but no thanks
polyduekes
hmm, i think i have a clearer picture now, podman is good for simple things while appjail is better for tasks that are more complex and require more flexibility, will keep that distinction in mind

for all the desktop users here using freebsd pkg with quarterly branch, i would suggest to not to upgrade their packages this quarter yet, everything is broken, many gnome packages had build failures, many shared libraries are missing, i can't even start xfce terminal due to missing libicuuc.so.74 or launch telegram desktop due to missing libabsl_strings. so.2407.0.0, and my drives other then the one where the freebsd root filesystem resides do not show up in thunar, this is what i have found in 5 minutes of upgrading wouldn't be surprised to find more stuff broken, rolling back asap, very sad
polyduekes
Sounds strange. You sure it's the upstream thats broken?
well, i just turned my pc on, did pkg upgrade, rebooted and was greeted with these issues that i didn't had before so i can't think of any other reason

create fresh user with default configs, log in as this, compare the situation if major errors persist, rollback (you DID snapshot/backups, yeah?), move /usr/local/etc sideways, do upgrade again, retest
Jay
?
Have you followed the link?

why don't you check the packages status yourself or show exactly what you want to show me? since i don't have any doubt
Jay

I did. If you are on 14.2, only 65 packages are failed. One with gnome in name. Must be your setup.

i don't find it appropriate to insert politics everywhere possible

Glad I dumped my 401k last month
Emp. Jasmine
All $700 of it
polyduekes
Its quite funny tho
well not for me since i couldn't care less about what "trumpism" means so the joke doesn't makes me laugh
polyduekes
and it's clear that by "everything is broken" i was speaking for myself rather then everyone
Emp. Jasmine
Aka break stuff
polyduekes
Aka break stuff
or more like aka stuff breaking without a clue as to why 😁

You used a very lazy and stupid generalization. Like the 🍊🤡 does. We gonna build all packages and they gonna pay for it. 👐
Emp. Jasmine
My motorcycle friends taught me that trick
Emp. Jasmine
Keeps the gremlins away
polyduekes
You used a very lazy and stupid generalization. Like the 🍊🤡 does. We gonna build all packages and they gonna pay for it. 👐
well no, honestly, it's your mind that is doing the stupid generalization, looks like i would have to give you a simple english example to explain, for example when someone gets caught in a motorcycle accident and says "man my legs are broken, hands are broken, ribs are broken, everything is broken" it's quite obvious that they are talking about themselves only, which is quite similar to my sentence
polyduekes
polyduekes
i just spoken about my experience and that everything is broken for me
polyduekes
just stop assuming things

You generalized. Without noticing obviously. Stop bitching and check your setup. Do you use the official pkg site?
polyduekes

nah man, i use gentoo mirrors and install .deb packages, again with the stupidness of yours
polyduekes
You generalized. Without noticing obviously. Stop bitching and check your setup. Do you use the official pkg site?
the one who has been doing that without any ability of comprehending english is quite clearly you
polyduekes
i hope you get well soon
Maxim
and they said English-speaking chats weren't toxic...
polyduekes
looked at the messages log and they were deinstalled as well during the pkg upgrade
polyduekes
btw auditd is pretty nice, explicitly in the aspect of how simple it is to configure, i quite like that

Mmm.. btw. Im runnung say here and no problem after upgrade
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
Just a few things in configs files but no broken stuff

did some packages that shouldn't have been removed got removed for you as well and if they got can pkg find them afterwards?
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
But I didnt have that
polyduekes
i see
polyduekes
I tried to install thunar .. not found
oh, that happens for me as well even though thunar is installed
Maxim
deluge got deleted, for instance
Maxim
I mean, there can be problems here and there, but that's rolling release packages for you
Maxim
but quarterly branch isn't rolling right?
it is, actually; it just rolls once in a quarter
Maxim
I mean, is it fixed to a certain release of the OS? not really
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
I guess is not happening with the bleeding edge branch
polyduekes
i thought the point of the quarterly branch was to provide more stable and predictable ux compared to latest
polyduekes
ah it seems the reason might be related to the fact that the build of those packages is queued for now https://pkg-status.freebsd.org/beefy20/build.html?mastername=142amd64-quarterly&build=cce5eec19b3a
polyduekes
guess i just gotta wait and see
polyduekes

seems like what i said about waiting isn't wrong, gnome packages getting removed rather then upgraded..on doing pkg upgrade is truly an upstream issue, what happened is some gnome packages got built, some are remaining in queue and while all this is happening we got repo updates which results in some packages removal due to unmet dependencies(dependencies being the packages that are queued) some other users report there are issues with webkit2 and electron based packages as well so overall it's a good idea to wait and...freebsd team really should rethink...their packages for quarterly branch strategy... something like debian stable would be good imo
