And? The conversation isn't about if it can run on fbsd or not, but about the different browsers available
Logic
Sorry, I didn't read the above message😂

Vivaldi, as well as a lot of other browsers, is based on chromium
True. Vivaldi, at least imho, is taking in consideration privacy compared to Chrome. However, i dont think that in the near future will be a brand new browser with a brand new engine focused exclusively on privacy. Even then, since all the web is infested with analytics/telemetry from GAFAM and 3rd party vendors, there is no real privacy, but ofc we can limit the collection of data/metadata.

Hi guys
Ronard NX
I m in a little talk with one of my friends, arguing why BSDs can t be called distros, like linux's. What s the correct version then? (I m not the one calling em distros btw)

If I have Linux Mint on ZFS, can I install FreeBSD on top (overwriting Linux) and keep my data that’s in the ZFS filesystem?
Logic
XS
Ppl like it or not it's called software distribution because it's software distribution heh
XS
A software distribution means there is an organization that distribute it to the world.

By using dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/disk bs=1M count=1 will erase all file systems information and disklable
🇵🇸🍉
But make sure you delete all partitions first
Jay
if=/dev/zero of=/dev/disk
🇵🇸🍉
And if u dd the partition only not the whole disk will erase only the file system information for the specific partition

you can change the keybindings tho

No need to delete partition if u dd the partition only
GPT has its second copy at the end of disk. So better delete all GPT partitions

Why there is not amd64 builds for CURRENT? I wanna download latest CURRENT version.

There is no 15.0 yet, it's 14.0-ALPHA for now

Seems so, yeah. The release calendar places October 23 as release announcement for 14.0 so I guess there is not going to be a CURRENT until that date (I could be wrong tho)

you can use GPT only with FreeBSD, without disklabel. why do you always want to remove the filesystem???

I will buy a FreeBSD VPS with 1 core, 1 GB of RAM, and 25 GB of SSD. Since Docker cannot run there, I have a plan to run Alpine via Bhyve. What I want to ask is: how about performance if I run Alpine via Bhyve with the specs of the host?

I guess that's more like stable enough and bug free enough as possible.. but that does not mean is bullet prove

You might want to refer to the security advisories on FreeBSD official site.

You should go with openbsd, or even fuguita, and run a freebsd desktop, or even linux desktop, in vmm if need be

It should work great

if you have to ask... ... well, it means you don't understand what the word secure in "secure by default" means. a better question would be "What apps do i use and how to they interact with the OS?" "Does the OS make assumption how a user would use it?"
トミ

トミ

No. For example FreeBSD will leave unsecure versions of software, whereas OpenBSD will not tolerate unsecure software for compatibility's sake. But if you know what to look for, then you can just patch whatever you need. Think of an OS distribution not as monolithic appliance that you can switch on and off. But rather try to think of the OS as an canonical implementation or reference design that can be molded to your needs. you can run a custom kernel. recompile the apps with your prefered options, etc... the main thing is knowing what you want. many people don't
トミ
great explanation thanks . sorry to ask, btw some said Linux is too fragile. what do you think?
not sure what you mean by fragile? the linux ecosystem is much more fragmented and offers (too) many options. Example: GNU or BSD userland. musl vs gnu libc. you can have ZFS kernel module or userland or even compile it into the kernel itself. the main issue is keeping track of the complexity...
トミ
FreeBSD is just FreeBSD. OpenBSD is just OpenBSD. NetBSD is just NetBSD.
