Ok, But I don't understand how freebsd supports the same card as imac
Did you actually try to install FreeBSD on the machine?
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Yes
And what is the outcome? Does it work?
Kalei
And what is the outcome? Does it work?
Everything works except the graphics card.
Kalei
But I get a black screen
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ

Can you share a dmesg log and a xorg log in a pastebin format? Maybe we can get some info out of there
Kalei
Sure!!
Kalei
i don’t know what i’m doing wrong
Kalei
My driver on xorg is scfb
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Any news?
Still need the xorg.log Did you install xorg-ati related packages?
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
According to Wiki: Post 11.2 use "radeonkms" kernel module via drm-kmod port

Yes, and I'll send it to you as soon as I can

ATI/AMD radeon HD 4850 Mobility
Radeon-kms on your rc.conf
Kalei
Radeon-kms on your rc.conf
I'm going to try it right now
Kalei
Radeon-kms on your rc.conf
If I put that then I can't enter the system I see a black screen

ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
@kaleidoscopio do you have hw.syscons.disable=1 in /boot/loader.conf ?
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
That's not supposed to be done anymore.
I wasn't aware, I keep doing it in the machines using AMD
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
We'll see if the xorg.log gives more info on the load
Kalei
We'll see if the xorg.log gives more info on the load
Okay, I'm going to do it but it will take me time
Kalei
Arghhhh!!!
Kalei
Kalei
Do you know if there is any way to enter the startup by removing the drivers?
Kalei
Booting in single mode
No, The driver that puts the black screen on me loads
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Lemme refresh my mind. I was there some years ago on a machine with an unsupported gpu, and somehow I managed to edit the commands before boot or in single mode
Kalei
Okay, I already have the results of the driver and everything seems ok, but we still have the black screen... Any clues?
Kalei
Kalei
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Hmm
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Maybe this is related, dunno https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=234646
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
I'll check in depth once I leave work

Hi guys why is Wayland seen as a negative in the *BSD sphere?

Hi guys why is Wayland seen as a negative in the *BSD sphere?
Hey :) I can't say much about it. But some in BSD and Linux say it needs more stability. Although I prefer Wayland over X
Kalei
kld_list="radeon-mks"
Yes, It's what I've put
Mr
Hi
Eliab/Andi
Hi
Mr
How do you secure FreeBSD from hacker attacks?
Mr
Configure PF.
Configure PF?
Mike
Configure PF?
Firewall. Setup and configure it properly.

Mr
Yes.
Ok thanks for your help

I'm just throwing ideas out. Does the machine by any means use a hybrid gpu somehow? (One integrated in the cpu and another one dedicated)

These are all the features I have: https://everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-i5-2.66-27-inch-aluminum-late-2009-specs.html

My best guess is to try enabling intel's gpu hoping there's one and check if the screen goes black when starting xorg
Kalei
Ok, lets’go
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Is there any way to make a debugging at the start?
you can add rc_debug="YES" rc_info="YES" to your rc.conf
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
And then select the boot verbose option from the boot menu (or type boot -v at the loader prompt)
Kalei
t's just that I see that it is the only solution to solve the problem.
Kalei
And i can do it with the firmware too?
Kalei
Or it loads the firmware all at once?
Kalei
Because i think the problem is the firmware V770
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Or it loads the firmware all at once?
I guess the handbook can explain it better than me here https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/boot/#boot-introduction
Kalei
How so?
It’s a iMac. There must be some distinction with the graphics cards..

Andrey
Has brightness panel: False
Neville

Andrey
Try the backlight command
i have no this command
Andrey
or xbacklight?
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
i have no this command
try man backlight(8) backlight is the new method to control your screen light in FreeBSD, but maybe it's not in 12.4
