Yes, i have 6GB ram, 1.8ghz quad and 1TB HHD so it was slow with ZFS, UFS is much faster in my case
Weird.. Is that 1TB 7200 rpm sata? I guess ZFS is super fast only on SSD/NVMe drives..

I am just a regular user who learns what i need to get my work done so I'm not sure, maybe someone more knowledgeable than me could elaborate and give you some facts. I have read there are performance improvements you can do with ZFS. I think someone in this group shared a link yes

Is ufs good for physical and zfs for virtual?
Unless you need the features ZFS provides, use UFS

I alredy did and many of the reviews of FreeBSD over Linux generally don't mention the desktop side of it, or recommend Linux distros over FreeBSD on desktop due to more wide app support, so <ıI wanted to ask here to pc fbsd users about their views.
Because honestly desktop really doesn't matter, its the same software on whatever operating system its installed on, libreoffice won't turn into Microsoft office if you install it on FreeBSD Under the hood is where FreeBSD really shines, desktop is irrelevant

no it's not "irrelevant". a multipurpose os should be able to run both on workstations and servers. however the only think that freebsd is lacking in terms of desktop usage is that it's wifi is limited to only n and many wifi cards don't have a driver. but as long as you can live with slow wifi and have compatible hardware there aren't that many other issues...
Jaco
well ZFS does have some overhead...
Overhead is almost like network latency just for HDD if i can compare? You are allowed to laugh i know nothing😅

Not really, network latency and filesystem performance are completely different paradigms
Anonymous
ZFS is inherently more complex than your traditional filesystems, so naturally its resource consumption is going to be higher

what a weird logo

oh yeah install me baby
Yeah now I get why /g/ says only furries use it

I need to put time aside to learn these types of things. I'm never going to use it but knowledge is always useful sometimes

/g/ says a lot of stupid things.

I laughed loud to this.

but ultimately, are they wrong or right? it's not like there isn't any veracity to this claim....

what SSH daemon do you guys recommend to use?
XS
OpenSSH
XS
maybe a dropbear or something for embedded systems, but personnally I always loved the OpenSSH quality and functionnality.. agreed it's not the thinnest thing but it's carefully made
トミ
i'm heaving a deja vu lol
XS
i'm heaving a deja vu lol
haha, I think he just like making discussions, that's fine
トミ
this And OpenSSH comes from OpenBSD originally, so it's probably well comprehensible code
yeah, openssh quality is according to people quite good, and also in benchmarks its crypto routines beat competitor's
トミ
(in terms of speed)

OK off topic:: anyone root an android 10 phone?

guess i best not hold my breath on this one.

Hello everyone! 👋😊So a while back i had this issue where my FreeBSD install would restart when loading the graphics driver and then proceeds to start up normally. I solved it by turning off SSH in rc.conf, i tried to google for a better understanding but found nothing, how are they related or was it just SSH all the way?
kub-kun
kub-kun
Its default on all BSDs

The current one is old and vulnerable.. I'd suggest you the one in pkg. See:

Jaco
Weird..🤔
I promise you😅i shared the rc.conf and everything 😊
Jaco
Woah that's really stupid. I think that there is just stupid bug in ssh or the driver
Might be, i am very proud of myself for fixing it on my own though😁😎
Jaco
Is nice
Luck was on my side😎

it's not a bug, it's an enterprise feature for businesses
Jackie
Hi, does anyone use clash from pkg? Mine crashed upon launching in terminal, didn't remember the output but it was related to go. Can someone confirm it so I can file a PR?
Jackie
I downloaded binary from GitHub and it worked just fine. https://github.com/Dreamacro/clash/releases
トミ
Wut?
they left the old version in due to "compatibility" because they have many "enterprise" users. who cares about security when you make money?

@unixmann the purpose of this chat is to stay FreeBSD related so people that want to share knowledge about it, or ask some technical questions can do it similar to irc. While I don't like to restrict every action out of that context, it's true that some users may like to keep this room tidy. Posting memes from time to time while related to FreeBSD is not a problem, unless it becomes a daily dose
