IDK, I'm a newbie. But it can be.

IDK man. as i said, currently I'm a newbie.

This is an off-topic chat. It does not matter what i was using.

IK, but this is FreeBSD group. You question was not related to FreeBSD. ( About to which OS i was using before)

Regarding the use of Freebsd, ask here all the doubts directly related to the FreeBSD OS usage. In order to debate on your doubts about free software, security, open source, Linux, and such then go to the off topic room @freebsd_offtopics, as the users here mentioned earlier

Yes. But you need X11. (There are some tools that shows the images in the terminal)
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Thank you, appreciated (:
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Using the fbi (framebuffer) could be an option
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
There was fim program iirc
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Maybe lvgl library can have an option to do so too
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
And last but not least, you can investigate on svgalib

qemu

I don't think you can, but I think there is a tool to shot picture using ASCII characters
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
qemu
Oh, I was going to drop bhyve hehe
Anonymous
Oh, TTY enjoyer here :)
Anonymous
cli is a generic term, if you haven't installed Xorg you're using TTY
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
tty is the console without X11. cli can involve working in a X11 environment
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
vifm is a cli file manager that can display images, but requires to run inside a X11 env
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Up to a point, yes, but forget about interactive web and such
XADE
Oh, I was going to drop bhyve hehe
^^ qemu is covered by most of the platforms
XADE
depends on the activities u consider normal
XADE
Then no
Krond
Well, there's weston and that thing...
XADE

browsing: really simple text based stuff, no fancy JS playing audio: cmus music player master-race forget video dunno about telegram
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Indeed, as Krond and Xade say, you can investigate on other display servers too, or use a window manager to avoid desktop environments on Xorg
Anonymous
There is the telegram-cli package on FreeBSD (:
wow, a text based telegram? finally, a way to avoid all emojis
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Yes
Anonymous
I think thats the whole point of it
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
wow, a text based telegram? finally, a way to avoid all emojis
Hehe indeed. And it has some cool features too. Deleted messages don't go away from the cli on your screen
XADE
search in browser
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Xorg is a display server, the framebuffer is what the gpu uses to paint stuff on the screen. I'd give you a more detailed explanation but I'm still learning all this low level graphics tools and knowledge
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
So I'll probably say some non correct things
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Yeah, thanks (:

Nope.

Hi is there a good repository mirror for middle-east asia? the default is very slow
Stéphane
To display image in cli there is viu, I am not sure if xorg is needed. And aview is maybe an option
Stéphane
I remember that I played with /dev/fb0 long time ago after reading topic in FreeBSD forum. But as I use xorg I am not sure how viu works. (For aview, it is ASCII art).
Stéphane
I use DWM. (the forum topic was probably this one : https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/draw-graphics-on-display-without-xorg.69090/)
Stéphane
For the sound level, I use two cli script and keybinding.

For your shell or Xorg?

What kind of functions? If you want bare minimum functionality, use twm

What's the different between disk image and memstick image?

What's the different between disk image and memstick image?
By disk image you mean optical disc images?
Anonymous
XADE
dvd1.iso vs memstick.img
the .iso may or may not work with thumb drive the .img is meant to work with thumb drive
Anonymous
Oh Tnx
Anonymous
dvd1.iso vs memstick.img
My guess would be that the DVD image contains an optical disc filesystem like ISO 9660 or UDF plus the contents I have burned DVD iso to USB stick and never had any problems The memstick image I guess has a partition table and a few partitions, it is meant to be burned to USB sticks I guess by the name My recommendation would be the CD iso, it always worked for me
XADE
Else there was no reason to provide .img

Anonymous
It's wrong?
Jackie
Alt + F2/F3 won't switch tty either? seems like it booted successfully already
Jackie
Is it UEFI or BIOS? could this be a Bios setting issue?
Anonymous
Jackie
Did you try turning or secure boot? or try temporarily disable UEFI and use legacy BIOS boot?
