Arch is actually quite nice, it’s a shame people know it mostly because of the meme

the memers will get scared and go away, the good ones will stay I actually think arch's meme status is good
swodig
arch needs expertise, one who come by meme etc will be able to handle it, or even install?
I went from mint to kali then to arch and now i have freebsd in a VM As you can see i made it here :P
swodig
great learning curve. how long did it take.
I installed arch after a year. Maybe less I had irl help though
swodig
what was the reason for hopping onto kali?
kali isn't meant to be used daily it's meant to be used live ==> problems come up when you install it and want to use it for day to day stuff ==> you have to fix the problems ==> you learn
Anonymous
seriously tho, kali at this point has a meme status magnitudes beyond arch

@admin hi, i have an intel integrated gpu that is about 8 years old, it is an Ivy Bridge. My question is whether to install the drm-kmod or just xf86-video-intel

Does anyone know if the Linux compatibility layer has a performance penalty?

Does anyone know if the Linux compatibility layer has a performance penalty?
It depends Does freebsd emulate Linux system calls or are they built in to the kernel?

FreeBSD provides binary compatibility with Linux, allowing users to install and run most Linux binaries on a FreeBSD system without having to first modify the binary. It has even been reported that, in some situations, Linux binaries perform better on FreeBSD than they do on Linux. From the handbook, section 10 (:

You have to load a kernel module in FreeBSD to enable linux compat

? Explain more?
See the ports which are open

Use a vm or a usb live stick

See the ports which are open
K, have you checked what processes do they belong to?

Server

Server
No I mean the process which is using the port
Anonymous
Like httpd uses port 80
Anonymous
Tor uses 9050
Anonymous
Not 80
Yes, a webserver like apache uses port 80
Anonymous
Due to historic reasons the process is called httpd
Anonymous
See the ports which are open
An occupied port doesn't mean anything malicious , it could be the NTP daemon
Anonymous
Check which processes are using which ports

However, given a 64-bit version of FreeBSD and need to run 32-bit Windows® applications, installing a different port is required to enable 32-bit compatibility. 11.3.3. Concerns of 32- Versus 64-Bit in WINE Installations https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/wine/

This is mostly useful for reinitialising the hardware, for instance after ACPI suspend/resuming. src: http://www.codon.org.uk/~mjg59/vbetool/
