It's a website by Davide Coppola, you can search him in this group's member list
Well, speaking of work, I want to say that I'm more interested in the front-end development using vanilla JavaScript (EcmaScript 5/6), UX/UI, RestAPI, Vue.js, React.js, jQuery and at times NodeJs as well but, be honest, not C++.

Hello there,
I am some days struggling my mind regarding a use case I found for typedef in C++. In the robotic framework ROS (www.ros.org) there are some clases defining its member variables using typedef and I really don't find a reason for this. For instance:
class Point : public ros::Msg
{
public:
typedef double _x_type;
_x_type x;
typedef double _y_type;
_y_type y;
typedef double _z_type;
_z_type z;
Point():
x(0),
y(0),
z(0)
{
}
}
Does anyone has any clue about this? What's the reason for defining the class Point like that and not simply like this:
class Point : public ros::Msg
{
public:
double x;
double y;
double z;
Point():
x(0),
y(0),
z(0)
{
}
}
The whole implementation of this class can be found here:
https://mirror.umd.edu/roswiki/doc/diamondback/api/geometry_msgs/html/Point_8h_source.html
Thank you in advance.

That's weird

I would like to know the reason too 😅

Does anyone have a prototype program in c of Spotify ?
Pete
Those who use visual studio 2017 community edition, is there a way to โcomment outโ a source file? I have two projects, they use the same headers but the source file is completely different
Pete
Rather than just literally commenting it out.

Likai
any reason why constructing a child class would create an instance of the parent class instead of itself in c++?
Likai
when I'm explicitly trying to construct the child class
Igor๐บ๐ฆ
@Likai child class always instantiate parent classes first.
Likai
hmm
Likai
so, let's say I have a parent class called Names
Likai
it just defaults to "no name" or something
Likai
but i have a child class called StudentName or something, a particular kind of name
Likai
and I want to construct that
Likai
StudentName("Jimbob") or something of the sort
Likai
that should create a StudentName with Jimbob stored in it
Likai
but instead I seem to be getting the default constructor for the parent class and it's just saying "no name" instead
Likai
is sorta what's happening for me
Likai
unless I'm interpreting something incorrectly
Igor๐บ๐ฆ
@Likai where do you store you string with the name? In what class? You should pass this name in constructor to name from StudentName
Likai
Names and StudentName each have a private variable
Likai
for name
Likai
Is that incorrect to do?
Igor๐บ๐ฆ
So they are different variables and in that case. Each time you want to read name from name class it will read its name
Igor๐บ๐ฆ
Not the one from StudentName
Likai
So, even if the object was made as a StudentName, if I attempt to read the variable from it, I shouldn't be getting the value from the parent class?
Anonymous
Igor๐บ๐ฆ
@Likai you should have your variable passed in the constructor of Name and not have on StudentName class
Likai
Is that just because of the scenario I provided here, or is it expected to create StudentNames through the Name constructors? I'm a little confused.
Likai
the name thing is sorta just an example
Igor๐บ๐ฆ
@Likai something like this: http://pasted.co/43606947
