David
I pay 13eur/month for 1gb high-speed, but no roaming or anything extra
orestes
No one cares about your incomplete clone of a fifteen year old OS, yet you still work on it.
1- why you are here lol 2- i don't even work on this 3-you can fuck off then mate
David
if we didn't care, we wouldn't be doing it
David
that's the whole point, we do care, and the download counts say a whole lot other people also do
orestes
Because I've been following ReactOS since 2004
"No one cares about your incomplete clone of a fifteen year old OS"
Kirn
if we didn't care, we wouldn't be doing it
I meant in general, don't care, the people associated with ReactOS most certainly care.
David
sure of course, it's not too widely known
David
but that's to be expected: we are still alpha
orestes
Kirn
but that's to be expected: we are still alpha
yes, that's okay, so is the Wine project that you borrow from greatly; yet I've also followed it since 2004
Kirn
the progress both have made since then is quite impressive
David
WINE is in a usable state, though, while reactos is not really fit for everyday use
Kirn
it's opensource
So? It's okay to borrow from open source, I didn't say it wasn't.
orestes
So? It's okay to borrow from open source, I didn't say it wasn't.
you speak like you fucking hate react os but you make no sense at all
Kirn
WINE is in a usable state, though, while reactos is not really fit for everyday use
Eh, I would disagree... well, if you were using only Windows software atop of Wine, that is.
David
?? why would you use anything BUT windows software with wine?
David
non-windows software you can run natively, that's the whole point of it
Kirn
?? why would you use anything BUT windows software with wine?
That's not what I meant; Wine is meant to be used with a regular Linux OS as a supplement; one would NOT use Linux and then run 100% of their GUI stuff atop of Wine
David
WINE isn't meant to be a standalone environment, it's only a compatibility layer for running windows programs
Kirn
WINE isn't meant to be a standalone environment, it's only a compatibility layer for running windows programs
Exactly, and that's why ReactOS isn't ready to be used standalone, both aren't fully feature-complete.
David
what I mean is
Kirn
I know what you mean
David
WINE can get away with having partial support, and still call itself usable
David
ReactOS can't — partial kernel support means it crashes all the time
Anonymous
🌚I wonder ReactOS and GNU Hurd which could be first usable.
Kirn
I wish I could help you guys with that
David
why not? if you install an mp3 decoder in it? ;P
David
maybe you can run winamp 1.0 ;P
Kirn
Or install VLC
orestes
Kirn
foobar2000 just fucks reactos
foobar2000 isn't the only piece of software in existence that plays MP3s, 'kay
Kirn
with another software it would crash
I wrote my own player called PsyMP3, using libmpg123 and libogg, and it runs just fine on Wine and ReactOS, without crashing.
orestes
but now reactos is a hell for anybody who works w/ computers
Kirn
Only compared to Windows 95.
Kirn
No.
Kirn
Unless you think it's perfectly acceptable for Apple to lower the bar for the user's technical skill level
orestes
No.
my ass not, windows 95 doesn't crash as often
Kirn
in which case, dude, WTF?
Kirn
my ass not, windows 95 doesn't crash as often
I would disagree strongly, Windows 95 crashes far often
Kirn
ReactOS is on par with Windows 98 first edition for stability
Kirn
with windows vista first release
Which is equivalent with 95 OSR2 or NT 4.0 SP3
Kirn
ReactOS is a little better than that as of 0.4.x
Kirn
Certain use-cases do trigger bugchecks (kernel crashes) more often than others, this I will admit, but it's more stable overall than any Windows 95 release.
David
maybe this works
David
http://www.oldware.org/download.php?download=176
David
it's the very first winamp released version
Kirn
ReactOS isn't going to bugcheck after 49.6 days of idle uptime simply because it's been up 49.6 days
orestes
yeah go download a verison from 20Bc
David
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7c/Winamp_0.2a.jpg
David
it looked like this.
Kirn
it looked like this.
WinPlay3 32-bit build, mate, it's awesome
David
in ros?
Anonymous
Kirn
dude
Kirn
that app ran on Windows NT 3.1
Kirn
the 16-bit build ran on Windows 3.1
David
yeah but the audio in ros is.... experimental.
David
;P
Kirn
The first 32-bit builds ran on Windows 3.1 with Win32s as well
Kirn
See
David
although I remember running a newer winamp
David
I just had to change the output plugin from dsound to waveOut
Kirn
This is why I wonder why you guys don't just port UniAud from OS/2
Kirn
It's a port of ALSA from Linux to OS/2
David
because what we need is a proper working DirectSound
David
(and a proper working WASAPI — the NT6 low-level audio interface)
Kirn
because what we need is a proper working DirectSound
Would a proper working DirectSound mean that one could just use regular Windows XP audio drivers?
David
yes
Kirn
Okay
Kirn
Then I was misunderstanding
David
you can already use them, with waveOut
