I would still use WindowsXP SP3 if it supported everything I use Windows for.

I mostly use a modified/shrunk (illegal, greedy bastards) version of win7. The installer fits on a CD and both the installer and the OS can run on a half-gig of RAM (512mb), something that a standard Win7 just doesn't do as-is. And they really need to forgo/forget the whole product key requirement. Being closed to modification (legally) and being closed-source and proprietary and everything that goes with that (including "copy protection" and high cost to purchase legally) really hold the OS ba

Official OS back, not to mention the spying

The shrunk/modified version I mostly use doesn't have the sp1 for win7, but idk the difference.

Look how much GNU/Linux has changed and benefited the community. Sure, it's not so obvious to the average user, but directives of Linux r everywhere. Android is the most used mobile OS, and many websites r hosted on Linux/UNIX based OSes. It would unlock the full potential of Windows if it somehow became FOSS. Assuming, of course, that the conversation goes well (which it probably wouldn't).

I should've said smoothly, not well.

I look forward to the day that Windows will be FOSS, but I don't think Micro$oft would allow it to become FOSS as long as they believe that there's more money they could make/milk from it.

That's what I'm sayin, they won't let it go til they believe there's no practical way for them to make money from it as-is.

😅I cannot see the future of Windows 10.

Idk. I just dk what there is for Windows after 10 other than either becoming open source or making another version.

micrososf said windows 10 is the definitive

I think they should at least make a small basic Windows version that is LTS and optimised for low-spec devices.

I like XP SP3. If it still worked with all my stuff, I'd still use it.

You want to run it on low-specs but you refuse XP.

There could be so many better versions of Windows than there r now, if it was FOSS.

But all that spying and the like (plus the forced installations, against ppls wishes, in some cases) in 10 makes it rather bad, just not quite as obviously bad. Some ppls stuff got wiped when stuff auto-upgraded overnight w/o their consent/approval.

Something with that many spying issues and aggressiveness would've lost many users if it was open-source software. Many of the ppl have become dependent on Windows and are like sheep. They don't care as much as a Linux user would. If that happened that bad in Linux, somebody would likely lose significant amounts of funding, and many of the users would move on to a different/better version because they can, they have that choice.

I know, it sucks. It's not the fault of GNU/Linux, it's the proprietary stuff, and the monopolistic attitude of Micro$oft and of other companies, and the lazy programmers who just want to make a game or program for Windows and nothing else.
