"Sender ID on its own can be used for low-quality phishing. You could send me a message from the Sender ID JackDorsey. This might convince someone, but the message would appear in a new conversation, the sender would not show up as a contact, and the message details would show that it is not from a real phone number. My phishing alarm would ring loudly. For a different approach, you could try sending me a message from the Sender ID 07890123456 – Jack’s number. This would actually be the same as sending a message from Jack’s number: the only way SMS distinguishes real phone numbers from Sender IDs is that Sender IDs have non-numeric characters in them! Therefore, SMS gateways stop you using numeric Sender IDs, precisely to avoid forgery. But then you have a dumb idea: what if you sent an SMS from O7890123456 – with a leading O, rather than 0? It’s a valid Sender ID, but surely no one would fall for a low-quality scam like that? Imagine my surprise, dear reader, when I tried this stupid trick, and the message actually arrived from the genuine Jack Dorsey contact on my phone. As a new message in the legit conversation. And which, when inspected, was indistinguishable from a genuine message: it shows as from +447890123456. Somewhere in the chain from the SMS gateway to my Android Messages app, something was replacing the O with a 0, and interpreting it as a genuine phone number! Who could be so stupid, and how did this code get into production?"

that is a fucking abusable parser bug google have marked WontFix
Anonymous
know why? RCS, google are pushing this and its replacing SMS (because they've push it)
Anonymous
and when a year passes and about 5 people remember this, google will kill SMS and this will be amongst the valid reasons for SMS looking like it needed to go
Anonymous
anyway in the interim thats a cool bug we probably wont hear much about again that you can exploit (u have spoofing things setup dont u, try it)
Anonymous
fun things to do if you've got an android phone an access to SMS thinger which i dont to hand but would like to confirm this if i had...

i installed ZFS with encryption but after the update and after typing in the passphrase i always get the message " failed to read pad3 area of primary vdev", before the update and new kernel i didn't get this message. Can i just look away from it ? i saw a post on it on the forum but no real "solution"

Hello :)
Artur
trying to install freebsd (it's my first try) on mac pro 3.1 (2008). to later use it as a server and stumbled upon this right of the start googling, but with no success. Found someone on reddit with same problem but there was no solution. Maybe someone here can help me out
Neegan
So is bsdinstall a freebsd installer?
Anonymous
I actually don't know, let me at least VM this thing. I have proxmox, I forgot.
Neegan

Artur
Try NomadBSD and check if it boots.
is it a minimal install? as I will be using it on a server
Artur
oh, it is like a wrapper
Geld [0/4💉] 🇵🇸 تحيا فلسطين
It's a persistent USB image

Just to test that your hardware works well with freebsd
Phil
OpenBSD : any thoughts on it ?
Arminio
OpenBSD : any thoughts on it ?
I don't really like the installer due to the fact that it doesn't offer an option to encrypt root or use ZFS, but in general it's probably a good operating system. I run it on a tiny server that doesn't have much resources and it runs perfectly fine.
Anonymous
ooo bad installer can be a killr
Arminio
Won't replace FreeBSD or Linux for me, but it's great to play around with.
Phil
@steptow @netzverweigerer you recommend to use manual installation ?
Anonymous
no i never do
Anonymous
and i have NOT used the instlaler yet, so my comment was generic
Anonymous
im spoiled by the Ubnutu installee which when it works 99% of the time

(or nano)
Phil
Thanks both for your point of view
Arminio
Well I tend to try to automate these things. I love to be able to boot a USB drive, wget some bootstrapping shellscript, and just run that and lay back.

and required me to type "initrd" at any point

but what im not a bit subscriber to is the Arch/Gentoo/LFS model
Phil
I prefer arch type but I can understand that it's not your type
Arminio
I much prefer NixOS over Arch these days

This is what I use to set up desktop machines with NixOS on fully encrypted root in an automatic way
Phil
I've heard about this OS

Arch = looks good and depending on which Messianc Arch distro (that will be created, used and dicontinuted this month within 6 months) until it, for me at least, doesn't work. Every time bad 2, and those were years ago

Everything the install has failed

It's not a bad distribution. If you have friends that are good at it, probably a safe bed.
