sha512sum -c <checksumfilename>
Hmm It throws 9 errors about not being able to find such file or a folder. I have checksum file and disc1.iso in the same folder.
mrphyber
can you post the output?
If it's not a problem then one moment

I know work arounds. I'm just curious why it doesn't work as intended
mrphyber
the program is searching for the compressed iso (.xz)
mrphyber
if you pay closer attention it complains about xz file missing
Iy complaints about all files missing from the checksum.
But the iso is also there
mrphyber
ok I found it
mrphyber
it is verifying correctly but checks even for missing files
mrphyber
in the photo you sent, it checked the disc1.iso
Krond
Yeah, it found one file and said it's fine.
mrphyber
I don't know what DOBRZE means in polish but I suppose should be okay
Really?
mrphyber
Really?
yes it is in the first photo
Ohhhh
Hahahahhahaha
I lost it among all the errors. Sorryyyt
Yeah "Dobrze" is "correct/good" haha if it was in English I would notice it but I didn't pay much attention sorry again!
mrphyber
in freebsd there is shasum that has --ignore-missing to silence the output of missing files, I don't know if it exists on Linux
So to avoid missing file, I just grep for "DOBRZE"?
Yes. There is "--ignore-missing"
Merci
mrphyber
np man
Works.
mrphyber
nice
mrphyber
I'm used to the utils on freebsd and on linux I don't remember all the details
Hahaha
I installed FreeBSD on a VM. Installation very noob-friendly
I installed sudo, and I was looking for sudoers file in /etc/ like a noob hahaha
It's nice that BSD is organised nicely
Nameful
It's nice that BSD is organised nicely
In which way do you find it organised nicely?
It's all in /usr/ instead of in core /etc/ or /bin/ folder
It's more "clean" (?)
Nameful
But how is that more clean?
It doesn't create messy duplicates in both /etc and /usr like in linux?
Nameful
The only thing on my system there is that put something in /usr/etc is npm
Krond
I personally don't like sudo. Stupid bugs and bad habits.
Nameful
And I imagine npm would do that on FreeBSD too
mrphyber
Krond
People need to choose whether they do trust someone and allow them to su, or use other synchronization primitives to provide more rights to restricted users.

Can't update pkg mirror to anything else than the original one. Xorg will take like 2 hours to download. Daaaamn. Will it be always like that?
Nameful
I had the exact same experience
Nameful
I couldn't figure out a solution though :(
Damn.
melvin
Krond
Dunno. Interesting FS, better performance.
melvin
so just for the sake of curiosity?
Krond
Yeah, started like pure fun. Can't give up for 5 years I think.
melvin
i heard freebsd is commonly used by netflix. they were able to achive great net performance with it.
melvin
but i have never encountered articles about dragonfly commercial use
melvin
mm?
All the mirrored don't work for me
I do pkg+address and nothing
Nameful
I do pkg+address and nothing
that's what happened to me too
Nameful
to answer this question
Nameful
Do you mean whether the mirror loaded if I visited it from the web browser?
Web browser showed "can't connect to the address"
They don't work either
melvin
is this a meme?
Well....my internet works, if that's what you're trying to test.
Nameful
could you send an example link?
pkg.eu.freebsd.org
There are FTP links like these: ftp://ftp.pl.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/ But, they seem to be only to download ISOs?
Nameful
pkg.eu.freebsd.org
I also get an error attempting to access this
https://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/mirrors-ftp.html
A person from 2015 forum post wrote pkg.eu.FreeBSD.org pkg.us-east.FreeBSD.org pkg.us-west.FreeBSD.org But neither work
Nameful
that sounds like it'd be outdated
Yup
I mean... It's so slow that I get a timeout....
