Himzz
Oknthanks ok will do that
Arminio
It's not too unlikely that one out of 133 members in this chat knows something about it.
Arminio
If you're not getting any further, maybe ask in #freebsd (IRC, FreeNode), too.
mrphyber

I may suggest to try drm-kmod I have a similar GPU on my laptop and everything works fine
mrphyber
and why are you using fbsd 13? if you are testing, it's ok if you are not, I may suggest switching to fbsd 12.1 which is considered stable
mrphyber
fbsd 13 current is bleeding edge and not suited for daily usage

melvin
hi all. is it possible to install freebsd on linux lvm?
Krond
Krond
I guess there was partial support, including linear stripes, but no resize.
mrphyber
I think you cannot boot off a lvm volume
mrphyber
there is zfs for that
Krond
Since FreeBSD got ZFS there's no reason to use LVM.
mrphyber
why do you need lvm?
melvin
i already have several linux distros on it
Krond
Why not getying another drive or trying EFI multiboot?
Krond
Also you can use VM to try other OS.
melvin
Also you can use VM to try other OS.
i want to run it on bare metal
Krond
I guess DragonFly BSD got LVM support. Not sure how solid though.
mrphyber
also NetBSD has lvm support
mrphyber
if I remember correctly
melvin
mrphyber
maybe you should stick to an os
mrphyber
for example pick freebsd and study it
mrphyber
I don't see a reason to hop on various oses
melvin
maybe you should quit saying people what they should or shouldn't
mrphyber
just advise man, no offense
mrphyber
do what you think is best for you
mrphyber
just trying to be helpful
melvin
well, i guess it is possible. yet i failed to setup zfs and stick to ufs instead
Arminio
Sticking to an operating system is like sticking to a specific type of beer. Why would you do that?
Arminio
Remember not to get stuck on something, refresh your mind every now and then and try alternatives.
Arminio
You'll end up with FreeBSD anyways, but definitely make sure you see some alternatives every now and then to get fresh thinking.

i think ill end up with something like ubuntu or arch. yet i may admire techinal solutions of other oses
melvin
like dragonfly bsd, minix or plan9

Ubuntu is completely fine if you're not planning to replace your DE/WM
Arminio
The OS is more complex than FreeBSD though, much more indirection and bloat, way more debugging levels, etc. - but if the out-of-the-box-experience is what you're after, go for it I'd say.
mrphyber
I do that just to concentrate on my work. maybe hopping is good to get a "fresh bucket of water" so to speak, but in the end I think that if I change frequently os I can't be good on any of them. this is just my two cents. I changed frequently distro in my life but now I prefer to use one (in this case fbsd) and use it as best as I can
Arminio
I even have 2 laptops I use as my main desktop so to say, one Linux and one BSD
