FWIW there's one thing that has always fascinated me about FreeBSD: how stable it runs
Arminio
I once wrote a small bash script which is nothing more than a wrapper around XBPS, the package management system in Void Linux. When I was posting a link to that on the #voidlinux chatroom on FreeNode, the XBPS developer went all crazy telling me "this won't ever be merged" or something. Well a couple of years later people build pkgbuild files for it and ask me to maintain the Void package for it.
Arminio
and compared with linux it's system vs kernel
You mean in terms of what leads to stability?
JCV
in general
JCV
freebsd it's a full os
JCV
Linux just a kernel
Arminio
Wow you're that young?
Arminio
I was born in 1980 lol
JCV
Linux just a kernel

I had some several issues with drivers... (tried on Asus G751)

+1 Is consumer oriented, depends on the work that the user would do. For software development a BSD should be better I think (else than macOS dépendant stuff)

Freebsd 12.1 could be downloaded now

Very sad

Me too, still downloading (slow connection you know...)
Anonymous
But changed location 2 weeks ago and had the possibility to get connection from neighbour. A little complicated now.
Anonymous
Where are you from ?
Anonymous
the reason i m askin is cuz with the latest technology, internet shd not be slow. unless u live in an undeveloped ctry or 3rd world ctry, like i do. i x even have landlines, connection is by data as i live in an outskirt
Krond
That heavily depends on where are you living. Here in my country mobile plan capped at 512Kb/s costs ~1$. And you can have pretty nice connection for ~4$ at home. Of cause assuming you are living in a big city, otherwise you can be totally out of luck.
Krond
Some sparse countries are still living on ADSL.

we still hav that with min speed of 512kb, max at 8 mb...package...but luckily we also have unlimited data package at usd50 mthly...
Anonymous
i always use this...bredbandskollen --live...to get the upload n dl speed...
Anonymous
I ordered a new connection, but I will keep your suggestion in mind :)

Hi!
Zebr
guys, a quick question, is it technically possible to export a ramdisk as an nfs share?
Константин
are you understand difference between filesystem and block device?
Zebr
Why are you answering with a question?
Константин
because nfs exports filesystem
Zebr
well tmpfs is a filesystem
Zebr
by ramdisk i did not mean one made by mdconfig, sorry
Zebr
For some reason exporting of tmpfs through nfs works pretty well on linux when fsid is set in exports
Zebr
thanks bud
