It's just there's a number of different partitioning schemes supported with different gotchas for different FreeBSD versions. For example, booting from GPT is fine, but I guess geom_part_gpt_load wasn't part of GENERIC.
Anonymous
Which steps did you do?
I typed this command but it returned an error , so i omitted the /mnt2 part.
Anonymous
But now when i type these commands it returns another error
Pouria
It is hard and it errors (the zfs part) 😂 Couldn't find anything about partitioning via shell in freebsd handbook 😢
I know you. I think you are a beginner(in FreeBSD). You should install FreeBSD with UFS, and start reading the Absolute FreeBSD book to learn more about FreeBSD and know more too. This is the best way. (I'm reading too)
Anonymous
I also couldn't find any way to mount those partitions that i have made with gpart. mount /dev/ada0s1 /mnt (Error) mount -t ufs /dev/ada0s1 /mnt (Error) mount -t ufs /dev/ada0s1a /mnt (Error)

Yes , i tried ufs and i couldn't delete the files that i copied from Linux (ext4) , so i thought it would be a better idea to switch to zfs. But setting up zfs is a little tricky 😅
Anonymous
And when you read the book, you can install FreeBSD with ZFS or other things.
Graphical partitioning on GPT (via Qemu/KVM) is easy but partitioning via shell on MBR is hard 😂

Does not matter. It's better to forgot Gnu/Linux temporary. You should install FreeBSD with UFS and start reading the above book.
Pouria
Okay 👌
Then you can get back and install FreeBSD with ZFS on GPT or other things.

Had anyone got some experience with DHCPv6 and route advertisements?

Hey @Extensible_Matrix, I've been reading all you wrote. If you are learning from the ground up how to use FreeBSD that's great. It's the best way. I also suggest you to try whether as a full OS, or in a virtual environment. I don't know which use you do with Linux, maybe some programs you need only work there. If that's the case, use a virtual environment from there like Qemu or VirtualBox to install FreeBSD. If all the stuff you do on Linux can be done in FreeBSD and you have some spare time, then as @pr_asadi said, if you want to fully immerse in BSD, forget about the other systems and just install FreeBSD without sharing partitions and such. Either way, I also recommend you reading Absolute FreeBSD. The book along the FreeBSD forums and groups can give you a lot of knowledge
Anonymous
Did you do newfs /dev/ada0s1?
No , that wiki page didn't mention this command. Also i couldn't find anything helpful for mounting them in FreeBSD handbook Handbook : # mount device directory

Linux is completely different from other Unix-like operating systems 😂 minix / freebsd : pw groupmod wheel -m [user-name] Linux : useradd -G [user-name] wheel

What's bloated about gnu awk?
I think gawk just have more features against awk.

So? In this case being bloated isn't a negative point

IDK and IDC. I use awk syntax that gawk uses the same syntax too.

Hey guys how do you compare bhyve with Qemu/KVM ?? @pr_asadi @n0madcoder I heard that bhyve is better than Qemu/KVM , but I'm not sure.
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Qemu is meant for Linux systems. In FreeBSD you have bhyve and jails (:

bhyve is FreeBSD's integrated virtualization and technically It runs faster than KVM on FreeBSD. one of the reasons is the bhyve technology is included in Kernel by default.
Pouria
👍
If my machine is not an old machine, i choose bhyve instead of qemu or VirtualBox.

I was a distrohopper. ArchLinux was fine but i had to repair the boot loader once a week (at least) and it was very bad for me 😂 So i switched to fedora which was the most compatible Linux distribution for my hardware

Cool. In my opinion, BSDs are simple than Linux. Absolutely I am not sure BSDs are simple or not. But i like BSDs more than Gnu/Linux distributions.
Pouria
IDK. But many programs/scripts/apps are ported to FreeBSD. or in FreeBSD we have alternatives.
Pouria
Not yet.

But i will be.

i think you can run linux binaries on BSD with some module stuff that i think mentioned in HandBook

try it

in my opinion: - Simple - Clean/Good implement - More Unix-like ...

I haven't completely switched to FreeBSD yet. But i think FreeBSD is more Unix-compliant and more standard. Each Linux distribution has its own packaging standard. Debian way , Arch way , Ubuntu way , fedora way , etc.

How pkg handles dependencies ?? Sometimes apt-get autoremove causes a big trouble for debian-based Linux distributions users (deletes dependencies of other packages)

Oh, I see. Then I suggest you to look at freshports or so for port dependencies. Try installing all deps as pkgs, and then build ungoogled-chromium from ports. It'll be a bit faster

How much work goes into porting? Are these programs/scripts following POSIX?

It seems to remove Telemetry, Google engine, and add some custom js files

Telemetry and Google engine can be turned off, so I guess real question is what they are adding.

Librewolf = Firefox + customized cofing (security) which blocks more trackers , etc. For me : 20 amazon tabs (config) = 5 amazon tabs (without that config)

What are your plans with that USB? Carry data on it or install freebsd on it?
