You have doas, sudo and/or su for that type of stuff 😉
This is a very good idea. Unfortunately, I am used to entering the following command after running the terminal sudo su Probably because I do not have to enter the password several times

Why were you disappointed? What didn't work or didn't work as expected?
My system is AMD 64. It does not work when I use version 64 of wine.
Anonymous
As a side note, if you use "su", run it as "su -"
What is the difference between the two?

"FreeBSD can actually build and run the pure 64-bit version of wine now. The problem is that it still doesn't support WoW64, and since that's necessary for the overwhelming majority of Windows apps, AMD64 systems still need to use the 32-bit package." From https://wiki.winehq.org/FreeBSD

Su = root ; su-= superuser

Have you tried other apps? Any success?

Have you tried other apps? Any success?
Yes, I tried. For example, CMD and Microsoft Browser were successful. But both of these were in the wine directory by default.

Why even run vlc via wine?
Jay

Jay
Try winetricks
Anonymous
So your wine install is fine. You need to tune vlc you want to run
VLC is just one example. The same problem exists with other software. It is not necessary to use VLC because if it was, I could use the special version of FreeBSD
Anonymous
Why even run vlc via wine?
Of all the software, VLC and NotePad were the best options for wine testing
Anonymous
Try winetricks
It is for i386-wine only.
Anonymous
When I enter the winecfg command for the first time after installing the wine, it tries to download and install Gecko and Mono
dapit
I don't know about wine64 but I've been using i386-wine for playing my GOG games with no problems
Anonymous
Have you installed any other software besides wine?
Anonymous
For example winetricks,homura? Or wine-gecko,wine-mono?
dapit
Gecko and mono

What are you trying to install?
Currently only simple software such as VLC

But I'm sure I will need to install more software later

I considered my games as simple too, since these are games from early 2000. I got an old core 2 duo laptop with 4GB of rams... It is old yes but still fun nonetheles

Hey, can anyone clarify, will we get in kernel wireguard in the 13-release? If it'll be disabled, could it be enabled manually? 🤔
Anonymous
I found something on reddit: WireGuard won't make it to FreeBSD 13 - Here's why https://www.reddit.com/r/BSD/comments/m6gqol/wireguard_wont_make_it_to_freebsd_13_heres_why/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Andriy
I read the whole story, thanks. And i believe that freebsd devs made an incredible job to get it done right, that's why it would be pity not getting it in 13 💁🏻‍♂

Htop is missing from repo

I just found out cool-retro-term, this thing is awesome

Hey is freebsd really a good os for servers ??? Cause I m working on a project but every time I need to implement something related to server side (redis, hiredis, neo4j, ..) are outdated or in worst case not present at all (libneo4j-client, redisgraph,...) ... It's surprising me
Phil
Ok but how can you run a graph database ? and please don't tell me that you must run a vm or a container where the guest is linux, it's a non sense for me
kub-kun
indeed i run freebsd on my server and im very satisfied
Eliab/Andi
yea realyl nice
Phil
So finally I was able to run RedisGraph
Phil
One of the problematics is that some ports aren't up to date
kub-kun
Phil
and I sent email with update ports to the maintener, he never answered
Phil
maybe I wold become a porter
Phil
But not gonna lie, I m lost for the porting cause I don't understood if fbsd moved on git ?? docs are talking about cvs...
Andriy
https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/freebsd-git-and-github-tutorials-links.77242/
Phil
ok so I looked on it and the ports are still on cvs but the whole freebsd src and doc is now under git
Phil
Mmmh I don't see what are the snapshotes
Phil
I really don't know at what you are refering to
Steven
Sorry for the question but do any of you have a nvidia 3090 card and were able to get it to work with X?

Good evening I would like to know, if people. We have tutorials, to transform a raspberry 4 in FreeNAS (freebsd 13). Thank you for your help.

Mornings, if I install FreeBSD 13 RC - Do I have to re-install FreeBSD, if FBSD 13 is released?
Eliab/Andi
Eliab/Andi
Nope, just a general freebsd-update
do you know if FreeBSD 13 RC2 is stable?
Andriy
do you know if FreeBSD 13 RC2 is stable?
RCs are for testing purposes, more people try it better release we get. It can be stable enough for me, but buggy for someone else. Try it and "help test what will become release" ©FreeBSDHelp
